My W series collection

Recommended Posts

Put a wanted ad in Red Power Mag.  Out of the blue got an email from Austin in the San Francisco area.  He is down sizing his collection.  Has a W6 made by Dave Hasty of Minnesota in the early 80’s.  We made the deal & here it is.

heres a WD6 I bought at a farm auction in a wooden box . It was busted up pretty good but it came with new parts to fix it. the seat had an actual spring but no hinge point so it was an easy target for someone with roamin' fingers to break.  I had to make a front axle bracket  and I cut a seat off a Super M t/a toy to build my SW6 so I used that seat and it looks nice. Just have to repaint it

Its a Teeswater Tractor WD6 so here is  one more for your search

Never seen that version yet,  another one to look for.  Have a Grove/orchard 6 & a Rice 9 in the works.  Found a Super W4 from Teeswater Custom Tractor going up for sale next month,  about 8 hour drive to go bid on it.

There was an IH dealer in Grimsby Ontario that was selling off his personal collection of 24 restored cub cadet garden tractors,  500 toys,  etc.  If you search Shafer auction co,  it’s listed under pass auctions.  Bill Vickers.  Of coarse there was a W6 I didn’t have.  Won the bid,  the gong show started.  My CC wouldn’t go thru on his end,  turned out visa turned it off cause bs charges on it.  Get new visa,  pay for it couple weeks later.  Parcel arrives at work,  ups don’t come to the farm.  I knew was wrong,  there was two 404 in the box.  Call auctioneer up,  month & half later I get my tractor.  Has broken off light,  wheel,  muffler.  Whole deal was a head ache from the start.

Went auction in Regina SK.  Added 3 more to the collection.  Had really step up the plate for 2 of them!

Think the WD6 might be from Dakotah toys.  Rear wheel weights look the same as they sell still today.  Was a toy show in Saskatoon Sk on the weekend.  Older man I have know for a long use buy kits from them & sell the 6 at his tables said have plastic pedals.  This tractor does have plastic pedals.  Odd looking front axle on it.  The WD6 decal is in the wrong spot,  I tried to see if would lift off.  That's a no go,  so leave it alone.

That looks like an awesome project. I’ve been slightly looking into making something similar. Not sure if I’m talented enough to do something like that.

Takes practise,  time,  patience,  etc.  As a kid built a lot of plastic models,  modifying 1/64 toy farm equipment.  Likely got started from my Dad as he was into model cars & then HO scale toy trains.  Hardest part is finding a toy W6 tractor,  then next hardest step is cutting it up to make the O6.  It's pretty hard to find W4/6 to begin with.  Thanks for the support Josh, nice to see someone looked at my thread of toys.

Been awhile since found any new to W series tractors.  In June 2016 saw this SW6 at toy farmer museum.  Never seen this before.  In 2020 the museum closed & early 2022 it was up for auction.  Which I won!

Have seen that toy for close to 6 years.  Auction was held by Girard out South Dakota,  they didn’t ship it.  So it’s been in their warehouse since the auction earlier this year.  Called them up last month & asked coming to get in in August.  Told me,  will pack it good & shipped it out.  It arrived today!

That is a nice piece and a cool story behind it!  I am ashamed of myself.  I live in ND and used to subscribe to the magazine, but I never once set foot in the Toy Farmer Museum and obviously never will.☹️
