Yup, sounds like it could easily be a wash. The 14L-16.1 tires START at $250 each for the cheapest ones.

If you do go that route, I wholeheartedly support Hey Wheel.  The 2.75 backspacing it what you want for your 15.  They might even have tires?

I finally bought a pressure washer for the farm, and was able to do some degreasing on the 15 and the 9 this past Saturday.   I didn't take any pics but I did get a chance to work on the 986 a little.  The dump valve needed adjustment as when in direct TA, it felt like you let the clutch out twice, which was the TA shifting immediately after letting the clutch out. I didn't notice it before I bought it, but I did after getting it home.  I read the manual a couple times, and a couple old threads here and then started wrenching!  I now have the Clutch and Dump Valve adjusted to where it doesn't do that anymore.  Lube light now goes out before the clutch starts to engage.

Last week Ebay had a 15% off coupon off a single purchase, so from All States AG Parts I ordered new red seat cushions and red interior foam kit for the 15 as well as a new black floor mat.  I really would of liked to get a new Red carpet mat like they originally came with but I can't find anyone reproducing them.   The seat and matt are scheduled to be delivered today.   The headliner in that tractor looks brand new so no reason to change it.

I also attempted to work on the AC on the 9.  I did not have the right fitting to attach the vacuum pump I have to pull the air /moisture out of the system.  It currently appears to not have anything in it which I know means it's probably leaking somewhere.  I am learning about the AC system and plan to get a can or two of dye charge so I can see where it's leaking.   I've always been kind of hesitant to work on AC systems but I figure on these old tractors it's not working anyway and between what I remember from being a kid working with my dad and youtube videos I'll be an expert in now time! :)

I also must say I enjoy this forum immensely.  I have learned so much from old threads and even new ones.  Taking what I have read on here, and then applying it has helped me learn about these tractors.  I just gotta remember as of last August I knew nothing really other than I wanted one!  A year later I now have 4 ?

Hy Capacity sells the red seat cushions with the correct stich pattern. Don't know what All State's is like

I seen that, I am hoping the cushions I got are at least close. If not I'll eventually put them in the 1486, and put the correct one in the 15.  The 15's seat is ripped and while functional it won't be for long if I continue to use it like that.

I may be trading my buddy for that 1086 we got from you that is hard to start.   The really rough 1086 evidently runs good, but it has several gears broken in the transmission.  So our other buddy wants the 1086 I got with water in the oil to put the good motor out of the rough 1086 into.   Take 2 tractors and make one.  Then I'll just pay the price difference for the nicer 1086 and hopefully figure out why it's so hard to start.  I realize I may be in for a infame kit and head rebuild, along with fuel pump and injectors.

At least that's the plan they keep telling me.  :)

Ya that guy i got that ugly southern belle from said he ram rodded the thing in gear when the clutch wouldn't disengage before he lost the clutch period. O my. That's about all that tractor is good for, parts. That hard starter needs a engine kit. I sure didn't need to be putting a kit in a tractor i don't need, let alone trying to get my money back out of it by trying to sell it after. I'd do what your thinking, knock the southern belle in the head for the engine and put it in the one with electrolysis.

One more thing Brian. That southern belle has a new MCV pump. Guy who had it pulled the whole MCV and took it to Hull Bros and he told me anyway they rebuilt the MCV and put a new pump on because he lost his steering etc. Right after he got it back on his clutch went south. So keep that pump if you part it.

Good to know I'll pass that along.

What was that tractor you helped us load with?  seemed like it had duals on it.  I had so much on my mind and was focused on loading I didn't even pay attention to what it was! ? :)

One of my better buys, a 8940. It was a lease return Violet implement at the time put a bid on and won the bid. It came from the Urbana area. Had 903 hours on it back in the fall of 2001. Has about 3500 on it now. All I've ever did to it has been routine maintenance and new injectors and valve adjustment when the book says. Haven't ever added freon to it, and she blow's nice and cool yet. Lol!

I thought it was a magnum but wasn't sure, as I was distracted.    No more hours than you've put on it in 17 years it should last you forever! :)

Maybe one of these day's I'll buy a Magnum.  It would be nice to have a front wheel assist one with a loader.  A Maxxum would most likely be a better size for me though.

My new seat came in yesterday and it evidently is not from High Capacity as it doesn't have the correct stitching.  It will hopefully work though! The floor mat did however come from Hy-Cap and we'll see where the foam kit comes from as it just shipped yesterday.

Took a day off today and went to the farm.  Was able to install the new seat and floor mat in the 15.  I'm not 100% happy with the seat but it's much better than what was in there.

I do like the red interior too.  I have a new foam kit for the 15 as well but I'm going to wait on installing it for now.

While I like the red foam I also think a red seat in the black interior looks good too.  :)

I spent yesterday afternoon in a 7130 (green) bush hogging to mow for my buddy so I can borrow the batwing.  Once I get that I'll see if the 15 can handle it :)

looks good. Just curious what you were not happy about with the new seat?

It's not quite as plush as the old one.  I think the seat from hy-cap is more similar to the original.  I may order one of them one of these days and put this seat in a different 86 series. Otherwise it's perfectly functional.

Ok. Just wondered. Looks lot nicer in pics than the old one lol. Would be nice to find one as close to original as you could tho.

It's perfectly functional.  But the back is a little thinner and not as cushiony if that's word lol

Definitely better than the torn up one that was in it.

My TC45D got a new seat recently too.  No more wet backside. :)

Spent all afternoon mowing pasture ground.   Some of it is pretty rough and very steep in places.  Definitely have to be careful how you mow.

I really like the 15! It's not short on power that's for sure.  Today is also a year and a day from when we brought the 1486 home.... it still doesn't run lol

Here's a vid from today since everyone just loves videos these days :)

Nice! Someday i do want an 86 of some sort. Probably go for a 10 or smaller in my case.

They are all physically the same size minus tires and rims.  1086 and 1486 are the same minus 1/4" of stroke and the 14 has the hydraulic seat.   The 986 has the same 436CI engine the 1586 has just non turboed, and I'd like to see what the real world fuel use difference really would be.  I know the 986 doesn't have the power the 15 does, but I can't help but wonder how much more fuel the 14 or 15 really uses?

So far I really like the 15.  Power wise it doesn't know the bat wing is behind it in heavy grass and going up hills that really make you pucker.  The transmission worked well for me in H1 TA ahead and only pulled back when field was just too rough to go in direct.   Last year when I mowed I used my buddy's JD4430.  While it's a nice tractor I'll take the IH any day over it!   I mowed my buddies place with the same bush hog behind his dad's 7130 JD on Thursday of this last week.  While that is a really nice and quiet tractor that I really did like (despite being green) I had to do a lot of shifting in it up and down the hills.  It had 16 gears.  4 ranges with 4 power shifts in each range.  Really nice transmission but it needed all those gears where the 15 just walks on no shifting required! :) But it's not rated at anywhere near the PTO HP either.

I really want a 4WD Magnum now too.....

186 Hydro, 786, 886, 986, 1086, 1486, and 1586 all the same physical size.  Wheels and tires are different but otherwise all the same in the size dept.

I'm perfectly content with what I have, but yeah a 7150, 7250, or 8950 would be nice! :)
