Letting everyone know that the field that we will plow tomorrow has some hard spots.

You may want to reconsider coming tomorrow, the plowing will not be as good as I had hoped.

just so you know...   I hate to see some people drive a long distance and be disappointed.

We are not cancelling, just want everyone to know that areas of this field will be a challenge, some of it is plowing pretty nice.

Owner will go over all of it with big ripper when we are done, so not as big a deal if not a perfect job.

just so you know...

I've now had a change in plans and was planning on coming except with a different tractor and plow.  Do you think my 5-16 semi mount will go in the ground?  Got good points on it and usually it goes in good.

You would be ok with that plow. There are a few spots that will give the older, light pull type plows a challenge. They will have spots where the plow will want to ride up out of the ground, and then large areas that will go pretty good.  Having good shares with some suck to the points will help.

I just wanted to warn everyone that might be coming some distance, that there will be a few spots on some high ground that will be tough.

OK  See you in the morning.  I won't need a loader.  I can back this plow right off the trailer and go.

Thanks - jerry

I'll probably still give it a shot. I'm bringing my 2 bottom with new shares and it went in the ground a couple years ago when we had the 20 plus inches of rain in June then the ground turned to concrete in the fall . The dull worn share plows just scooted across the top of the ground that year. Maybe I should have been hoping for some rain today instead of wishing it would stay away.

I drove my H and little genius plow to the plow site earlier this evening.  I did a round to see if I remembered how to plow with a big tractor and plow (been 37 years) . Going down I stop several times to fine tune the plow. Had to plow 25 to 30% in low gear because it pulled too hard. Wish my plow had 12 inch bottoms....using 14 inch bottoms

Made it home safely and in one piece.  A big thank you to Mark and all the others that helped to put this event on and providing lunch.  Plowing was a little tough but when it was all said and done, we didn't do too bad a job.  Sure didn't take long to knock down that 80 acres.  The green ones were struggling except for the 70 diesel but he was pulling an IH plow!!  I didn't seem to have much trouble but at home I usually run 5.5 mph and was down under 3 a couple times.  I might have done better had I realized that my rear depth wheel was flat.  Couldn't see it in the wheat stubble and didn't notice it until I loaded to come home!?!?!?

Thanks again for a great time - jerry

A big thanks to Mark and all who helped to make this great plow day a success. Yes it was some tough plowing but a good thing was it made me make some adjustments to my plow and it now is working better than it ever has before. I was always able to pull it before but was never happy with the job it was doing. My last round it was plowing better and pulling easier than ever before so I am happy. All in all a great day and I got a chance to meet with and talk to some great forum members, and that is what it is all about. I hope all had as good a time as I did. Later

Tom

Super great day. Ground was hard, but not awful.  (I've plowed worse.)  I'm very thankful to Mark (Ohio Farmer) for putting on a great event.  Even more thankful for the breakfast snacks, a great lunch and great hospitality all around.  I know I've said it before (and I don't want it to sound like I'm beating a dead horse) but I'm very appreciative to Ohio Farmer (Mark) for letting me drive his 560 for a few rounds and to 2+2 guy for letting me take out the SMTA-D for a couple of rounds.  It means a lot that you guys trust me with your equipment.

we had a great day to plow.

this was the view when I got to the field around 7:30 this morning. A few tractors arrived the day before,

including my 560 and my good friend Floyd's JD 3010 just to the left of my Farmall.

soon may trucks with trailers began to arrive and we started to help with unloading.

After donuts and a few announcements we  got busy

It was darn near perfect. Great weather. Good crowd. Fantastic food and fellowship. Oh yeah! and a whole bunch of neat old tractors. You did a GREAT job, Mark, as you always do.

It's been 2 years since I had the ol' SMTAD out to plow and it sure felt good to turn some dirt again. Glad everyone made it home safe.

Thanks again, Mark and Karen and all the crew that made this another great NWOH Plow Day.

Darn why are you guys so far away:( ?  Mark always seems to have a terrific plow day:wub: .  Jerry did look pretty relaxed , If he is like me , maybe he was still trying to wake up ,

I don't fully wake till noon then its time for nap:lol:

All kidding aside ,as always it looked like a great day and lot of camaraderie , and some fine looking old classics.

I will say I am so jealous , first that you guys do this every year and it looks like a great event , Second, that  you say its" dry " but the dirt has a rich dark look to it and MOST OF ALL NO DUST !   Out here today ground would of been like powder and you would of wore dust masks fallowing each other:(

Good to see the 560 D back at it and always good to see John's smile on his SMTAD

Ground was indifferent- some spots were super hard, some a bit wet, and some like sand.  A bit of dust but not a ton.  We were breaking off chunks of soil a foot in front of the share before it even had a chance to get to it the ground was so hard.  I took Johns SMTA-D for a round and darn near had to keep it in 2 LOW the whole time or it'd stall out.
