superih
My neighbor has a 9370 Quad Trac with the N14, after a day of running hard the engine will not shut off with the key, have to go to full throttle then slam back to idle while shutting the key off and pulling back on all the hydraulic remotes effectively killing the engine. Can anyone point me in a direction for what to check/fix?
mmi
the way you describe, points to bad relay or shut off @ pump find and replace....if it actuates an arm/lever simple enough to pull that until replacement arrives......after '95 many started to adopt opposite where run circuit holds it open no power shuts down
SDman
I assume this tractor still has all of its stock engine parts. On the 9300 series Quadtracs, Cummins used a fuel system they referred to as "Centry"-which is not to be confused with IH's Sentry system used on the 50 series IH tractors. If you look right above the fuel pump on the engine, you will see a round disc-shaped thing that is held on with 3 small (1/4" or so)bolts that face the front of the tractor. It should have a couple wires plugged into it as well. That thing is called the EFC(electronic fuel control) valve. It was very susceptible to getting debris in it, causing numerous problems(throttle/engine would run at one speed was the most common problem). You might try tapping on that valve with a small hammer next time and see if the engine shuts off. You might try removing the 3 bolts and removing the valve and clean it with some brake cleaner or something like it. Unfortunately, many times when they stick the valve needs to be replaced. If its still the original valve(black paint like the engine), the newer valves from parts were less prone to trouble due to a redesign of the valve. Also, remind your neighbor that the Quadtracs required a different fuel filter than their wheel tractor counterparts. The Quad fuel filter had a higher micron rating to keep debris out of the valve I just described above. Good luck!!
