fbh31118
This is an oil pick up out of my C 152 that is getting built up for my H resto project. The oil pick up has been damaged at some point in the motors life which has broken one of the solder joints around the pick up tube itself, therefore allowing fluid to enter the internal cavity and leaving the pick up in the down position all the time. My question is weather or not this is critical to replace? Will this adversely affect the protection of the motor? I can order a new one from IH for about $60 so replacement is not a big deal but the motor is going together completely new and with modern fluids so I really don't know if its really important that it 'skims' the top oil off. TomH
Your making the motor completely new right? Replace it, it also helps ensure that the engine gets full lubrication when operating on a slope. You should post these questions in General IH, you'll get more responses. GT&T
FBH If you will "carefully" pressurize it lightly with a rubber tip air blow gun then the air will "reinflate" it to the proper shape. Be careful, just a very slight amount of air pressure is required to reshape a float If you have someone who can solder, that float can be cleaned up and soldered. You can leak test it to verify that it is sealed. GT&T
R190
There should be plenty of floats in salvage yards . They usually are not bad

If you had a local source, it would be a lot less time consuming also. GT&T
