Snowmad
Could someone please post up a picture of their serial number tag (in good shape) for a Super MTA? I have 4 of them and on 3 I can only read the stamped number. I'd like to know what they are supposed to look like. I've got new tags from a local guy and he wills stamp them for me. My concern is that originally the model designation and engine RPM were printer, not stamped however I'd rather have a slightly incorrect plate that's stamped instead of what I have now which is just a silver plate with the serial number. If I could see a good original for an MTA, then I can get mine stamped accordingly.

TomH
This is the replacements offered at Steiner's, looks just like the one on my 450. Rated max idle speed is 1650 rpm, max full loaded speed is 1450 rpm. http://www.steinertractor.com/IHS289B-later-style-serial-number-tag-1950--up
DWV
Like the picture tom posted but after model, SM-TA. Serial number and any suffix next line. third line add 1600 RPM. Only thing stamped in most is the serial number and suffixes and a D after SM-TA if a diesel. Saw a few exceptions on the serial plates that looked to be original. Other stuff on plate is paint or something that will come off. That's the way I remember them anyway. Still have a couple SMTA and had more but no paint left on any of those. Had some 450 and 350 with just two no paint lines. Black was more cover on the bottom. Still have a 350 that way but can't make out what was in the black at bottom and can't remember on the others. DR.EVIL
The tag on my Super H is pure silver, just the stamped numbers left. Tractor was kept inside the last 48 years and suspect it spent most nights inside the first 14 years too! Now, the '51 M the tag looks brand new, not shiny, but a nice patina worthy of being 65 years old. And the black printing is still in great shape. What actually causes that printing or silk-screening to fade? Would it make sense to clear coat the tags to prevent fading?
