The old 044 wasn’t pulling like it should anymore so I pulled the muffler and didn’t like what I saw. well 20 minutes later and I’ve got the jug off. looks like I’m rebuilding another one. Going to try to clean up the jug on this one as these are NLA from Stihl and the aftermarket ones aren’t near as good. Found an NOS piston, rings, and piston pin. Also going with new intake boot, impulse line and crank shaft seals. hoping that gets this one back to running well again. It’s no beauty queen, but might as well have it running right. I bought this awhile ago as an impulse and don’t have more than a few tanks thru it myself. Someone had the carb tune way off and now I know why. I picked it up cheap for a good runner, but I will have a bit more into it now. No more impulse buys….. until the next one comes along.
