so I found a good deal on a vertical 80gal compressor - need a bigger unit up at dads/our farm, his is just a small 20gal with a hole in the tank so airing up tractor tires and running air powered devices is not good. I have a horizontal quincy i was going to move up there and keep this vertical to take up less space here.
3 phase motor - so I will need to get a VFD or ( likely not ) build a phase converter out of some kind of 220 volt motor. Its looking like the price of building one and components will be as much as a VFD I have found.
My questions are this..............according to research ( internet ) i might need to double the HP rating of a VFD when ordering one for powering the 3 ph motor with 220 1Phase input?
For instance the motor is a 5hp 3 phase so would i need to buy at 10hp rated VFD?
Secondly if I need to build a 220 volt phase converter does the 220 volt motor need to be as large output as the 3 phase unit would require? - example - since the 3 phase motor is 5hp would i need a 10hp single phase donor motor for the output ?
IF I had a single phase 220 volt motor that big i wouldnt need to build a phase converter I would just swap out the motors.
What are your thoughts ?
Thanks in Advance,
Robert
