So I called BK Diesel in Iowa and they had the seal kit in stock!! It will be here Tuesday of next week then I can tear into that and fix that leak and hopefully the tractor will be better than ever. It still wants to hunt some in the governor on the throttle. I’m gonna try and put it under a hard load when it will stop raining. Bolted the hood and grill on the other day and it really looks good to be all original!!

  2. Working 1948 C . We added a water pump ,don’t remember ! or could have been from the engine I got from Charlie Burgh. I guy just doesn’t remember.
Noticed the coolent was cool . So Super C s have  a thermostat. I wanted to ad a thermostat. Putting in a new headgasket for water pump and head work , to correct the wear .
How does guy add a thermostat without a super c housing?
I have a siphon feed housing. Well after some thought about this . Measurements of the opening come to 2.062 , well a thermostat has a flange of 2062 .is available . Went Andy’s auto parts, like going there cause he will give me advice and opinion even if he doesn’t get the sale. He said this themostat has a 2.062 flange .
I thought I would braze it into the housing to hold. Andy said how about JB weld . Bette yet ,I wasn’t  good at heating the and holding it in location. JB weld I could manage.
So this is the result. Putting a thermostat into a siphon housing .

Next step is trail , and measure the temperature of exiting coolent.
photos are for your edification and amusement.

  5. I would not use that from what I’m seeing so far. Why because as you spin the sleeve , mangle end with cut if it caught will rip open your palm  .  spend the money and get a decent crank , eliminating the pain .
I’ve made replacement sleeve with painful results. The sleeve has to have all the sleeve rotated .no fixed surface such as ( shaft collars ) for the hand to pinch between fixed crank and rotating. This is must do. Absolutely no pinch points
I recommend that the starting system on tractor to be repaired and use crank only in a case where it is absolutely necessary.

  6. Interesting post , seem to me I saw some thing similar  on motortrend about a hop up . They used a sealing ring after they blown a headgasket .
Never caught which head gasket was ok for the higher pressure from more boost

  7. Basically they are all the same !

Its not something i was really considering, just popped up and i was curious. I hear raving about 327’s and I also know that truck engines tend to be heavier parts but lower compression. Just looking to learn something.

Good for turbos ,with lower compression, right ?

  9. Doing ok I see ,
