Oil pump gear clearances ( or put new )  ,valve spring height , engine block deck flat .003= ,cylinder head flat .003=, no more .006 total length width is .003 total block and block .cam shaft journals , cam lobes ..003 variation . I can’t think of every  thing ,there is more . Need a list .

did they straighten the rod and check ,especially if they either to start ,predetonation bends rods .

make up a spread sheet if you can’t find one and check off each item , should be a sheet of a overhauling manual .

your putting so much money into the overhauling ,you can’t afford to do it twice .

Solid lifters  have spherical dome of .002 very good idea to put them back into the bores they came out of . Measure diameter and overall length , measure lifter bore on block . Lifter do rotate in bore  . Worn lifter won’t rotate ,wears out lobe .

check the push rods on surface plate for bent . Measurements  of over all length . Put rods back into same position they came out .
some things I forgot to measure .
buy proper amount-of  breakin oil additives .
Make sure you pressure and flow test Radiator.
I say check for cracks and resurface flywheel ,  replace pilot bearing

Are you going to braze  up the shaft ,turn shaft , recut the woodruff on pump ?

Very poor, sucked in and cracked in one spot. Reservoir has been washed out and blown clean.  No screen from Steiner installed. It will get pure Hytran when ready.  Thanks for the positive comment. Appreciate it

I had a very good friend ( passed away) that had a converted commercial fishing boat that he would use single trees and drag dive clubs off Conneaut Harbor,  Lake Erie   looking for treasures, for example .
I never done it but !
The story’s he shared were very interesting .

Forgot to mention , safety first !  He had warned me to watch for this ,you can get caught in lost fishing nets , so you do not be a dead rookie . Work experience divers .

That’s amazing Dennis, so glad it came together for you. Never realized you may be near Conneaut? I get there on the ships now and then.

Yeah I remember you had custom pistons made for that. Have you got that running? I don’t recall seeing if you had? I bet that’s the the only Fordson with wiseco pistons? Did you have the dome made any larger? I think they’re under 6:1 depending on the head, you could bring that up a good bit running on today’s even regular gasoline. Flat heads are a bugger to build Compression in though, you have the area over the valves and if you close the chamber up between the cylinder and valves you quickly reach diminishing returns as you restrict the flow down into/out of the cylinder...

Got the Fordson  running January 2021 , with the help of my son and grandson , was a tearful experience , because my mom and dad didn’t see it . But it been a blessing taking it to shows and hearing the stories people tell me . Nothing but good things

have happened since. Thanks for your help !

Added The Farmall  C with corn planters in photo replaced the Fordson in 1948 when Fordson through a rod digging out the basement under the farmhouse in Conneaut.

  10. A guy in our home town had a boss 429 . Last time I saw it was in a barn . They were pulling the engine out of it . Think it spun a bearing . I never remember seeing it again .

I don’t know if it will work or not but I’m hooked on Engine masters  on motor trend . I think they made an episode on that very subject. I also believes they compare to to a throttle body fuel injection , for the money stay with the carburetor.my opinions
I think you will need to change the jets , my opinion ! Put on and try it . Get a vacuum gage tune it look at your plugs good luck

they load up at idle , don’t look at black tip ,look into the insulation of plug deep down

up to you how far you wants to go

Better price for sure but still seems excessive for such a simple piece of aluminum! I’m planning to make one that accepts a bottom anvil from my dial bore gauge set and uses the 0.0005” indicator from the same set. Their procedure isn’t quite how I like to do it either. I’ve always measured the bolts free length, then use a simple box end wrench with an extension welded on, place the wrench over the bolt head, install the gauge and zero then simple tighten until specified stretch is achieved as there used to be NO torque spec given for stretch torque bolts.  You would log the free length of every bolt and it’s position, 1 inner/outer and so on  then compare free length at any disassembly. Any bolt which doesn’t return to its previous free length would be considered scrap.

These are ARP 2000 bolts with the new rods and they spec torque and stretch  I might be interested to try the Goodson procedure and see how close the torque spec is to achieving proper stretch but you just have to watch no to go over on the stretch.  The stretch method eliminates any errors in the wrench or by rotational friction cause by the threads or bolt head, lube used can also drastically change stretch at the same torque, which is why stretch is the go to for achieving proper clamp load.

Ive got a nasty failed rod somewhere, I’ll post it when I get in the shop!

it’s not the wether here for that! Their beer sounds good though!

I’m glad you posted this topic ., I learned something in research about procedures. Learned something new everyday They say .

flat and level on concrete: yes, it's in the new shop at Dad's.

thanks for the pointer on the flywheel, we likely would have checked...but it's a great reminder.

    Tom

Forgotten this one , the stepped flywheel need to maintain the same distance from clutch pressure plate to the flywheel surface . My Super C is 1.188 inch . Measure yours . Don’t know what yours is .
