IH 784 Tractor stuck in 4 wheel drive

On mine, you move the lever forward for 4WD & pull it back for 2WD. The push forward is accomplished with little resistance, however, the pull back takes a bit of muscle power.

    784 4x4 replacement

I expect by comparing the parts diagrams you could define or get a good feel for the differences. I have the ZF & just ordered a part for it off the parts diagram: http://www.messicks.com/cas/60177

Wrong universal in ZF 4WD 784

It's mainly used to haul a hay wagon in & out of a feedlot in the winter & some hay raking in spring (~50A), some disking in summer (<15A). It has a 2250 loader. Thanks for the input. I'm thinking if the caps on the correct part do not move when pressed in place that should mean I'm good to go

Wrong universal in ZF 4WD 784

Back in 2014 I had one of the universals replace in the front axle of a ZF front end (seems the clip failed/fell out). Recently while greasing it (difficult due to orientation), I noticed that all 4 caps would rock/move inside the yoke holes. The shop thinks they got the part from an IH parts supplier (Messicks) but the prices don't match so I pretty sure it's not the correct universal. I will order the correct one & get it installed. My question is what is likelihood that the yoke holes will be wallowed & if so how much is OK? Secondly, if not OK what can be done short of replacing the 2 axle pieces (prob not even available new)? Thanks in advance for any inputs or comments.

    474 parking brake

There is an aftermarket device that integrates into the reg brake system (hyd) that will lock the brakes when you flip a switch/lever that closes a valve that then keeps pressure on the brakes when you remove your foot. I think it releases when you again apply pressure to the brakes (ie a bit more that initially thus freeing the valve). I considered this option for my 784, maybe others have more knowledge on the subject.

    IH 784 rim dim

Yes - I have a deep well rim as shown in the upper picture - the loops are mounted to a raised portion of the rim. The new part number (Wold) is apparently the same rim but a different color (cross section shows the raised "strip" where the loops mount). I have also sent an email asking them to reaffirm the term deep well rim on this new part #. I have some new knowledge, same bolt circle can give you different rim dias! Thanks again for all the inputs/assistance.

    IH 784 rim dim

Thanks to both Matt & Tom. The folk at Wold said that the rim that they have shown is no longer available but another is "but be sure the bolt circle measures 24.25". This "be sure comment concerned me", especially since they did not answer my question "will this fit an IH 784", but as noted it's unlikely an 1/8 would get me in trouble (even if it was the proper measurement - which I suspect it is not).

    IH 784 rim dim

Thanks Tom. I was trying to insure the 24.25 bolt circle rim would fit the tractor (my measuring was giving me a number a bit different @ 24 3/8). Yes I have 18.4 X 30 tires. Are there any other places I should try to see it they have might have the correct rim (I have only seen a new 16 X 30, 6 loop at http://woldinc.com/tractor-replacement.html).

    IH 784 rim dim

Does anybody know the bolt circle dia for the 6 loops on the 16 X 30 rear rim of a 784. I try to measure but find it to be greater than 24 & less than 24.5, but more like 24 3/8. I find a rim on-line that has 24 1/4 - could that be the exact dim & my measurement is just a bit off? Don't want to buy & find out there is a 24 1/4 & a 24 3/8+ dia!! Thanks in advance for any insight on buying a new rim for my 784.
