  1. I am amazed at the condition of vehicles that have spent their lifetime in the western part of the US. The road salt and humidity have been killer for vehicles here in central Indiana. I have recently started my search for a certain model of IH pickup and would like to find one from out west. Are there any dealers or groups that specialize in older west coast vehicles? I have checked out a few forums on Facebook as well. Thanks

  2. I was curious why the Grousers off the T340 had the 2 notches on the them. The grousers original to my T4 do not have the notches and use a 7/16” bolt. The grousers off the T340 also use a 7/16” bolt. I feel a little more educated now so I can start my search for a good set of pads as neither one of my sets are in very good shape. I had to do quite a bit of welding on my T4 pads as they were cracked out around the bolt holes and are getting very thin. I kinda made them work so I could take it to a show this summer but would like to fix it up right over the winter. Thanks to everyone for the information so far.

  3. Hello - The track chains on my T4 crawler were getting extremely worn so I started the search for a different set. I found and purchased a very nice barely used set that I will swap over. The rails measure 2.97" and the bushings are 1.46". I removed the tracks from the T-340 parts crawler and obviously the original grousers were swapped over to the chains when they were replaced as very few of the grousers are in really good shape. I would like to find a good set of grousers to use on the new set of chains that I purchased but see the manual list pads for interlocking and non-interlocking chains. The grousers on my T4 are very worn and have had some bars welded on at some point in time. Can anyone tell me the difference between interlocking and non-interlocking track chains so I can make sure I am searching for the proper grousers? The grousers on my T4 are 10" but I will search for a set of any length as I have a local shop that said they can cut them down if needed. I have attached a picture of the track chains I purchased and a picture of one of one of the good grousers. I also attached a picture of the worn grousers that are currently on my T4. Thanks for any information in deciphering if these are interlocking or non-interlocking.

  4. Info for t4mike or anyone that might have interest. I spent most of the winter going through the T-4 and getting things back in to tip top shape. I took it to the local show this past weekend.

Here is a list of a few things that needed attention:

Replaced all steering clutches, drums and brake components (the parts had drawn a lot of moisture over the years)
Installed new throw out bearings for the steering clutches
Installed new bushings and shafts that operate the carrier for the throw out bearings
Cleaned out the rear end housing, installed new seals and new fluid.
Took the final drives apart and replaced bearings, seals and gaskets
Took the engine apart and cleaned sediment out of the water jacket.
Replaced the rubber o-rings at the bottom of the sleeves
Rebuilt the water pump as it started to seep.
Replaced the engine clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing
I was fortunate enough to find several NOS parts during the process
I found a NOS choke cable
Made a new wiring harness and battery cables
I found a factory original tow took for the front with the proper IH part #

  5. Trying to locate a factory drawbar extension for a T-4, T-5 or TD-5 crawler. I would like to find one to finish out my crawler. There are 2 different part #'s that should work (I am guessing one might be a little longer than the other). The part #'s are 636032R1 and 636037R1. I have contacted multiple parts suppliers listed on this forum with no luck. One of the suppliers thought they had one but was unable to locate it. Does any member here know of someone that might be parting out one of these machines? Thanks for your time and any information.
