Many years ago and being a junior FO I was on call for organ flights. The donor was often a young motorcyclist riding with no helmet. The docs who were going to do the transplant were the docs harvesting the organ and were like us going to the salvage yard. Like we want the wires and hoses and to look at how it's installed they were doing the same. I've been in two MC incidents. A helmet saved me for one of those, the other was simply a lot of road rash. At the time my brain was my second favorite organ but I still had the sense to wear a helmet.

From an aerial perspective there are a surprising number on large warehouse type buildings especially in sunbelt areas. Any new construction anywhere can easily be engineered for the extra weight and appear to be as roof solar farms are common now everywhere. It seems any new large building anywhere incorporates them. Shaded parking is another place I see them and not just in the south. As for leaching chemicals: Solar cells are sealed in glass. Sure chemicals are used in construction as they are in lots of products but the final product is pretty much inert. I agree that solar farms should be on roof tops or non productive land. There's a large solar field on the south side of the Rifle airport where we kept our CO based plane. It's useless land otherwise. I have a barn roof facing south with a 10-12 pitch, pretty good for this latitude. Years ago I penciled out putting panels on it but just couldn't make it pay in my lifetime so abandoned the idea. Were I 20 years younger and if utilizing the small field that i just mow now it probably would more than pay back as I could easily put 5-6 acres with a southern exposure. As a septuagenarian it can be for someone else. My cousin had a hay field in a town away from his core business. Most of the old family farm is now golf - driving range and pitch/put. Not worth his time to hay and not able to find anyone to do it he leased it out to that town for solar. No brain income. I can't imagine your pain. My sincerest condolence. Even though I constantly see people doing wrong so often that I've adopted "people suck" as my comment on them it's heartwarming to hear of the ones who clearly don't suck who stepped up to help you out in your time of need. There's hope.

The airplane trailer out of the mobile home frame was pretty light and not suitable for much of anything else. It was decked with only 1X rough cut and he used some old mattresses for wing cushions. As I remember he got the burned hulk for zero.

It's hard to put a dollar figure on scientific knowledge but we all know that it has made for advances in all sorts of things. NASA issued a paper that I saw some time ago that listed/quantified the direct and indirect benefits that have resulted from the program. Of course it's written by them but even if it's only half correct it's impressive. Some things that come to mind are solar cells and purification systems.

I had a part time gig repairing Cessna wings. Guy had a factory jig, can't do it without. Anyway, he was buying Cessna 150 training aircraft in various states of crashed and rebuilding them. I and another PT guy were doing wings. He made a trailer out of a burned mobile home. Planes are big/long and weigh very little.

You may have a problem with the gauges and negative ground. I think the transmitter, if the same resistance range will be ok. Anyway, I've found these DC-DC converters work well for cheap money.

Nice pics pulled off the 8mm! Amazing little device. In my plane I have a combination ADS-B in, GPS position, wifi transmitter, and weather receiver all with a Pi as the heart. I get WAAS position, other aircraft positions, collision warning, and weather all transmitted on wifi to my iPad. I bought it as an assembled kit. It quit and I installed a new Pi just transferring the ADS, GPS, and WX modules over. It actually has an AHRS card (Attitude Heading Reference) so my iPad can function as an attitude indicator with heading. I think it was $100. when I bought it, now about $400. Compares with commercially available at about a grand. Suction mounted in my back window. Two antennas as it receives both 978 and 1090 mhz ADS-B. All driven with a Pi.

Ever wonder how long they had you before letting you go?

As a young man working the midnight shift and sleeping days I remembered lots of my dreams when waking. I attributed that to just not sleeping deeply. i actually looked forward to the weird concoction of characters my brain would put together while my body slept. It seemed the brain with nothing to do was putting together full color sense-surround movies to entertain itself.

Hopefully they'll see the advantage of the new location. The platform they previously occupied was installed by the power company at the request of F&G and the birds, recognizing the advantage of the prefab, moved in. Waterfront real estate instead of highway frontage - location, location, location.😊

Don't overthink it. The party in favor of flags is the obvious one especially the prevailing one away from cities and the coast.

There was an Osprey nest on the top of a pole right under the left base leg pattern of runway 34 at PSM. It's rumored one of the birds actually was involved in a mid-air but I can't verify that. Anyway, Eversource relocated the nest on a new pole now on the edge of the bay rather than I95 and airport. Hopefully the birds appreciate it.

CHPs need something modern:

Snow's finally gone so I cranked up the bucket truck and replaced the halyard. Winter winds were tough. Good to have the flag back up. An observation I've made on flags: NH tends to have lots of yards with flags. Just riding around on my bike during election season I found there was a relation of party signs to flags. Houses displaying candidate signs for one party often had flags while the other party almost never. I found it interesting.

I've been several times. It's very well done and well worth the trip.

We don't have Alexa but it seems something is listening by the type of advertising that suddenly appears.

I can make totally hands-free. Ask Siri to make the call and the audio plays in my hearing aids. I can text too by asking Siri. My wife's car will read the message aloud and ask if she wants to respond. None is anymore distracting than talking to a passenger. I would have to read a text. I do look and see who it's from and if I need to reply I pull over.

The company I flew for owned Ducati. Dumped a lot of money in them, turned it around and took it public before finally selling it off at a profit. We probably could have bought a bike at a discount back then but Ducati are for the serious performance rider, something I grew out of once realizing I was mortal. Our maintenance coordinator puts some serious miles on his BMW. If I was looking for that type of ride it's something I'd look at rather than something everyone else has. It's the same with my Commando. It has something of a cachet. People have heard about it but few have ever seen one. Antiques now they still perform. Yes, a new Jap bike is less to maintain and will out perform it but I don't want what everyone else has.

Aircraft piston engine oils are AD -ashless dispersant. The reason is to keep the sludge forming stuff, primarily lead, suspended and directed to the filter. I don't know why a tractor engine running on unleaded gasoline would care. The air-cooled aircraft engine though has such loose piston/cylinder clearances that there's lots of room for combustion byproducts to get into the oil thus the need to suspend them. When you remove a propeller from an engine that's been in service for any length of time the hollow crankshaft will be quite full of lead sludge that's been centrifuged out of the oil. Back in the day of the big radial engines with Hamilton Standard Hydromatic Props it was routine maintenance to remove the dome and clean out all the sludge. Back in my GA days it was common to do oil changes at 50 hours on engines with just screens and 100 hours on those with filters. Having seen the amount of sludge I keep my changes to around 25 hours. I would think diesel engines have a similar problem and need a low ash oil.

I sometimes used to see that back before cell phones. I guess those drivers used their peripheral vision to keep them in lane. I thought that was crazy now people are watching movies, really crazy! I wonder how many of the multitude of crashes every day are distracted in general? I expect it's a high percentage.
