Many years ago, probably late 80’s. I bought bottle calves to feed during my summer vacation from school. Anyway a neighbor mailed Holsteins and had a Hereford bull. Those black white face were very nice calves.

I have this and have had good luck. Don’t remember it being terribly expensive, bought on Amazon. I’ve only jumped cars and pickup but has always worked. I rarely use it so it sits for months. Knock on wood it’s always held a charge so far.

I have 1 on my 340 also although I never use it. Not sure if all models used the same 1 but the dimensions are the same on my as Lorenzos.

I’m sure you all realize crop insurance is highly subsidized by the government. That coverage would be much more expensive if the tax payer wasn’t picking up part of the bill.

Looks nice. I wish I had that front axle on mine. I've asked my Dad to pick up a hydraulic filter for mine before and he has come home from the dealership with the wrong one, the style used on a 560. I assume this was only different on the hydros?

I have been involved in harvesting down corn and it is an awful job. But people have always made the effort to get it. The only time I've seen crop abandoned was when there was a derecho that went through central IA in August of 2020 (I think that was the year). Corn in that area was completely flat and not yet mature. You don't see it as much now as 30 years ago, but it is common in this area to turn beef cows out onto a harvested corn field. If we don't have an early winter they are able to feed them for quite some time that way.

If you decide to switch it to cylinder lift let me know. I think I could come up with what you need from Dad’s parts plow stash.

It looks like your 412 has the mechanical tail wheel lifted by the fast hitch rather than a cylinder. My Dad has a 412 like that. I know how the lift arm mounts to the rock shaft on a 460/560, curious how that mounts on a 450? As far as grease on the moldboards I gave up on that and just use cheap black spray paint now. Works good and I don't worry about getting grease on my pants if I brush up against it in the shed. Doesn't really take any longer to clean off and shine up than old hard grease.

Very minimal amounts. Yes they are buying more than 0 now, but not anything significant.

I agree that it seems like simpler times then. But I also remember my maternal grandpa saying several times, "The only thing good about the good old days is that they aren't here anymore."

When you look at the amount of corn and soybeans China is currently buying from the USA I don't think us stopping "flash sales" would make 1 bit of difference. China has placed a huge emphasis on becoming self-sufficient on corn production. And Brazil and Argentina are already almost the sole providers of soybeans to China.

I agree with others, looks to be in good condition. Has coulters and a cylinder...those seem to have been stripped off of most plows around here. Not a lot of on land plows in my neck of the woods. Seems like most had semi-mount in furrow and by the time plows were getting big enough that on land became common most had quit plowing already.

I'm sure I'm the odd man out here and will say prime rib is not my favorite cut of beef. But that does look delicious @lorenzo. That ham looks delicious too. I fatten a few calves each year and butcher 1 so that we have plenty of beef in the freezer. For the most part pork is still a bargain, but I did have my wife buy a pork shoulder roat a few weeks back so that I could smoke it and make pork carnitas, and I was surprised by the cost. It too was much more expensive than I expected.

Thanks for all the feedback gentleman. I agree with @stronger800, I think I'm going to by myself a birthday present and pick 1 up. If everyone else has mostly good opinions and Matt Kirsch has a bad opinion.....it sounds like a no brainer to me. 😆

My saws do not get a lot of use like some of you. I have an old Stihl 290 farm boss with 20” bar I rarely use. I have a newer 180 with 16” bar I mainly use. All I normally do is cut mulberry and other junk trees from fence lines. This winter I’ve cut down a couple trees so had a little more use. In the past I’ve looked at these 2 in 1 filing guides that sharpen the chain and file down the rakers at the same time. Just looking for something quicker and easier for a novice like myself. Has anyone tried these?

Very large grain farmer. I'm not saying the government payment is going to pay for a land purchase. But it does allow them to continue to operate without needing to make the difficult decision of negotiating rent or letting rented land go. Basically I'm saying much of the government payment just passes through to the land owner.

There were 240 ares sold here yesterday, 3x80 acre tracts. $16,683/acre average and it was purchased by a farmer. Hard to claim farmers aren’t making money when they can afford these prices. I feel these government payments just keep land values artificially high.
