  1. Thanks for the responses. I hooked up the new solenoid and the tractor started shifting. It worked for a very short time and the new solenoid burned just like the first one.
  2. The solenoid under the steering wheel on my 5288 tractor got hot and was smoking. I turned off the tractor. I got a 12V 4-post solenoid from the auto parts store. The one on the tractor is 3 post. The guys at the auto parts store said it didn’t matter which post the small wire was connected to. Now When I crank the tractor, the gears will shift but the tractor won’t move. Wires and fuses all ok. Any ideas?
