    JimB2, thank you for your reply. I have a H pattern transmission. I'm not certain about your second question, it has a hi/lo/rev lever and a 1-4 gear lever so judging by your note is it most probable that I don't have synchro. Do you think that the obstruction is in the transmission 2nd gear or in the linkage that is used to shift the gears?

    I have an IH 484 with 2200 hrs. I have an intermittent stuck in forward or reverse problem with the tractor that occurs in 1st or 2nd (most often ie 90%? in 2nd) when I shift from Lo forward to Reverse or vise versa and the shift linkage sticks in forward or reverse. The linkage is jammed such that the square tang on the linkage will not fit through (align with) the square slot allow the transmission to go into high range. Sometimes I sense some stickiness and I move to high range and shift through the gears to loosen thing up. To fix it: 1) Remove both shift levers where they conn
