  1. thanks for the input the shift fork is made like it is because the collar it shifts or moves spins inside the ears when the tractor moves the grove the fork is in is only about 1/4 inch thick you can get to the upper ear but no way the lower one it is all welded up he did a great job . I just don't trust myself I'll forget and start shifting it and break it again and do more damage ? so I thought I would ask if anyone mite have one if I put it back together I will make a bracket and make it so it can't be shifted out of low this is a poor picture of where he fixed it and where the fork rides sorry I need 3 hands just to get a good picture couldn't keep the wire out of the way
  2. I keep 1 of the wrong forks we cut 1 ear off of it and welded the to ears back on 2 problems 1 where it needed to be welded thin cast iron 2 do you take a chance on it failing and doing more damage ? the guy that welded it is a pro did a great job and if I go with repair I will shift into low and leave it there hoping I can find one to replace instead
  3. he has it but not sure if he wants to sell just that part .then he started saying about delivering unit to me he was going to get back to me on a price so I thought I would ask everyone
  4. Hello I need a shift fork for a 1980 International 270 A backhoe I had a problem with it popping out of gear at times previous owner had a heavy spring that went fron high low shift linkage to emergency brake cable. I removed it when I fixed the emergency brake then I really started to have problems it would pop out of gear and the only way I could find anything was to let the torque converter pedal out a little and even then sometimes it was hard to find a gear I was thinking shift shaft or detent ball and spring was I wrong Took the cover off and found both ears broken off the shift fork drained oil and found 1 I think that the previous owner had a problem broke 1 Took it apart removed the broken ear and installed the heavy spring to keep it in low range I didn't know anything about the backhoe bought from estate sale all they said was its in the woods hasn't run in 10 years needs injection pump see other post for that story I have ordered many aftermarket forks part #123685C1 but when I get the part part # is right but part is wrong and casting # is not right it . Mine reads 123685C2 # 4 Any help would be greatly appreciated
  5. Komatsu has that part # or it might have changed to 123685C2 What's going on right now is one of the places that sent the wrong ones said to keep it I found 1 ear of the fork in the bottom of the high low box so I took it to my welder he cut 1 ear off the wrong part and welded that and back on I think it will be ok as long as I leave it in low But would like to fix it right because its 2 1/2 miles to my son's house and I have no way to trailer it and it took me 45 minutes to drive it there last year to fix his back yard Here is a picture of the inside of the bell crank you can see if it is given a little it will move out of the linkage bell crank
  6. Hello TonkaBob I only have one 270A with a long list that needed to be fixed or uncobbled I have been told 250 260 270 were all the same just motor horse power changes I did find out why mine was jumping out of high and low the ears on the fork were broken When I picked the tractor up there was a big spring that went from the high/ low shift lever and hooked to the emergency brake cable I took the spring off when I worked on the emergency brakes and didn't put it back It was holding the shift fork in low range So I need a high low shift fork for a 270A with a torque converter transmission can still buy from dealer but $1300.00 aftermarket shows they have them but when I ordered they came in right part number on the tag wrong number on the part and it was a lot smaller So there it sits waiting for me to save my pennies to buy a new one
  7. Iook at the picture again the outer rim is bent on the inside and the axel housings is off as well not just the axel My guess is someone was going to fast and went off the road
  8. Just to let you know everyone here has been fooled by the power company it is not electricity they sell but smoke all he needs is new smoke retainers for his motors case in point look at wire size . Starter motors take a lot of smoke to turn a motor over that's why large wires more smoke. Light bulb small wire less smoke And no matter what you do if you let the smoke out it doesn't work be it the part or the wire So if you want get the model number of the motor and look up on line for a smoke retainer for it or if you have a local fire department they may have a spare one
  9. Thanks for the info I bought a service manual from eBay but it doesn't cover everything I'm having a problem with it jumping out of high or low range at times The bushings are worn but at times it will go right past the range your trying to shift to it looks like the King mite have had his hands inside the cover where the high low are but will order bushings and see if that works
  10. I still have a list of things to do before paint still have a few pistons leaking I have the kits just don't have the time. And it needs to be rewired front to back Needs a few new pins has some play in the hoe And get a new cable for the emergency brake Other than that I think it Will be ready for paint But with cold and snow on the way it will be spring before I do much more work on it Can't get it in my garage so I'll cover it up pull the battery and hope for a early spring I'm not computer smart to do videos I do like youtube to help with repairs or read topics here even just to get you started in the right direction You have a great looking backhoe with a full cab and clean hope mine will look good one day soon
  11. Holding strong after boulder We also cut the 12 inches of 1/2 inch plate off the top of the front bucket and used some of that to fix the outrigger
  12. Will check for crack next nice day I have I forget to show a picture of the great job the welder did on the outrigger Nice looking backhoe I think you get what you pay for I paid $500 for mine and put about $3000 in parts not counting my labor or all the welding it needed that I swapped a guy he fixed my outrigger and I did head gasket on his old Volvo But I must say it has money well spent I've done 2 jobs that put it to the test pulled 3 big tree stumps out of my son back yard and finish it off so they could get married there in 7 weeks And a friend of mine called said his water was coming up outside of the house not in the house so I had to dig for a new line and it was all clay and big rocks and 2 large bolders 1 was so big had to put stuff in the front bucket just to move it out of the way I still have a lot of work I want to do to it or need to but I can use it if needed Have fun with yours and a question for you I was told the only difference between a 250a,260a,and 270a was motor horse power ?

  14. worked on the water pump mounting plate and found more of his handy work he had a small bent square stock welded to a piece of the broken exhaust manifold and tacked to the stud at one time it didn't hold , then look what he did for exhaust I think I'll start looking for a good used one now and get the right muffler for it and he cut the hole in the hood to fit not much fixing the hood cant wait for the nights to stay above freezing so I can start cleaning this thing
