  1. I was able to make some good progress. Pulled the block out and got the pistons out , which was way easier than I thought it was going to be. I also pulled the top of the transmission off. Its pretty dirty in there. The oil was very very thick, took about 2 hours for it to drain out. Anyone know anything about the over center clutch? I have never even heard of one before. What do you guys think about the transmission? Do you think it should be left alone or gone through as well? I've been having a blast working on this old girl. It's really been going smooth, only broke 2 bolt
  2. Got the head off tonight. It is looking a little rough in there. There is alot of flakes of something in the cylinders and water pump. I have not seen anything like this before. This is my first time tackling a seized motor. What would you guys recommend next? I would guess it would need to be soaked. But what would you guys use to soak it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  3. So this is my project for the winter. Got her moved into the shop the other night. She needs alot of love. The motor is seized and there is alot of rust. But who doesnt love a good challenge. I'm going to start tearing her down later this week to see how bad the motor is. I keep you guys updated.
  4. Well, I am now the proud owner of an O12. She is going to be a project for sure, but I couldn't see another piece of history going to scrap. I will keep you guys posted on my progress in the projects and builds section
  5. Thanks for the replies. I think if i can get it for the right price i will go for it. I think it would be a good learning project for me. I have yet to do a full rebuild on my own. I do have another question. There is no magneto on this tractor. Is the internet the best place to turn to find one, or do you guys know of any place specific that would have one?
  6. **** all, I have came across a old O12 that i am considering. I live in the middle of orchard country in the pacific northwest and work in the fruit industry, so i have been keeping my eye out for an orchard model tractor. This tractor is in really rough shape and the motor is stuck. I am hoping someone has some insight into these tractors. I can't imagine they are complicated motors but i have never overhauled a tractor that was stuck. Thoughts, wisdom, opinions, and warning are all much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cal
  7. It was a little odd they took such a liking to the kubota. They do custom hay work and have no need for a vineyard model tractor. But I am not one to judge or complain.
  8. Here is a massey I bought last year. Picked it up for 2200. Real good tractor, use it mainly for running a brush hog.
  9. Hauled her home today. I have plenty of work to keep me busy for a while. She has alot of leaks that need to be fixed. I drove the John deere home and it ran good, the A/C even worked in it.
  10. Here is a picture of the kubota that I traded for the other two for those that wanted to see it
  11. I have used a lot of Stihl and they are always good for me. I have had a ms 290 farmboss with a 25" for about 7 years and it has been a really good saw
  12. This is the other tractor I got in the deal. It seems like a solid tractor, my first tractor I have ever owned with air conditioning, so I am excited about that
  13. So i am the proud owner of a IH 856! i went out and got the deal done today. Didn't go quite as expected, ended up doing a tractor swap. They decided they wanted the Kubota i didn't want and traded me this 856 and John Deere 4240, if i am allowed to say those words on here. Anyway i am excited about this old girl, the tin is actually pretty good on it, i think it is about due for a new clutch however. I took i new picture of it today with the rest of the tin put back on. I don't go and pick them up until Sunday because i graduate college this Saturday and have a lot of things that have to get
  14. Thanks for the input and advice everyone. I think I'm going to buy it. Might take a little work to get it up to snuff, but that's the fun part. I've been looking to get an older diesel tractor to replace a kubota that I have enough of. I will keep you guys posted.
  15. Hello All, So i found a 856 for sale for a what seems like a good buy. I looked at the tractor today and it starts and runs goods the tranny seems strong. The only issue with it is the PTO doesn't engage. The owner doesn't know what's the matter with it, He never used the PTO on the tractor so never thought to fix it. Is this something that you guys have heard of before and if so is it a fairly simple fix or is it something i should steer clear from. I will put up some pictures of the tractor. I got him down to $3200 on the tractor. Thanks in Advance, Cal
