  1. Folks,

     Just checking in!

A couple weeks I will have to go to Matt's for the annual firing up of the TD6. Will try to get some pictures too.

I did notice that some of my old pictures are not showing up in first pages of this long thread. These were probably photobucket pictures?

Merry Christmas to all the forum members! Hope things are good in Red Power land!

    Regards,

     Chris

  2. Dennis,

    Glad you found your vaporizer.

Wooden parts in a old antique carb? Never heard of such a thing? As you say they must have been desperate to get a tractor functioning! And if the parts were close to being the right shape, maybe it did run pretty well? You know gas is not that smart, to tell if its wood or steel!

    Regards,

     Chris

  3. Folks,

I talked to Matt where the TD6 resides and he had some news. The TD6 is under his new lean to on which I helped him put up, on the back of his sugarhouse. He also took his picker to the local tractor show grounds and helped the president pick the rest of the corn. He said they had several gravity boxes full of great looking red corn!  He said it worked great! Nice to see this old equipment still working!

    Regards,

    Chris

  4. Tony,

Wow those are some big castings! We don't think about all the parts in a machine like this. The hunt for parts! Yes you have the three machines to make one, Sounds about right. One of the issues is that you wont have many folks that can chime in and help you with a issue. So no support other than us cheering you on to the finish. Hate to ask but what is the final color? I see lots of yellow in the last pictures! And I assume you will do some small amount of bailing for demos??

At our local tractor club we were given a McCormick 2 row corn picker. Our president has worked on in to get it running, moving, picking, and repaired parts and some new chains. But man is it worn and tattered.

Another question which I may have missed? What was the driving reason to restor/ refurb one of these bailers? What year is this late 40's? We did not have a wire baler. Do you have a matching hay rake and mowing machine in the wings too?:)

I do agree there are many levels of restoration. I call my work RCP "Refurb, Clean ,and Paint"

    Regards,

     Chris

  5. DSDC,

Just dont see the side shields often! Note there are two pieces to each side I think. Get all 4 parts! See if you can get them! In fact buy the whole machine! I dont have the hook either.

You must have picked up on my light screen not being at 45 degrees??:) Bugged the heck out of me when I found that!

Yes I am going to mount a rear light someday. It did not have one originally on mine but I love lights! Just have to have it! Similar location but I dont have fenders. I do have a skid plate platform in that location.

    Regards,

     Chris

  6. DSDC,

The brass lid locking ring has come loose from the top of the radiator casting neck. Maybe lost? I believe they are one of those unobtainable items as mmi suggests? I found mine inside the original cap, a DUH! moment! Since its a non pressurized system I guess it doesn't matter much if the cap just sets on there and bounces around! Mine was that way for years probably and must have worked OK. I just like to get things back in good functioning working order as the wallet allows. Should have tried soldering rather than brazing!

Your current rear cover may work just fine for a long time and have a good story with it too!:)

    Regards,

     Chris

  7. DSDC,

I am good on the gaskets Thanks! And thanks for reading the book! Just what I do and in other areas too. Like Allis Chalmers forum and Maple trader.com too. I dont do face book hardely at all. Probably where I should be but am too lazy to learn. I do have a lot of maple pictures too. Glad to see your making syrup! Good project in the spring. You have a totaly different starting system but sounds like it works well. I like to be able to start them from the cockpit/ in the seat if possible. Dont need any accidents! I like your elevated seat. The low cost lawn mower seat works ok in mine.

I have been trying to get better on the body work thing for the past 50 years. Still learning but my skills are acceptable for these tractors not show cars!

My TD6 has less than new under carriage and I am not even a judge of how bad it may be? Folks on here have given me suggestions on improvements. I just dont have the shop to tear into it. And as some one mentioned I dont do enough with it to do a full re-furb on the old girl! There are some great resto threads on here about similar dozers. Awesome work these folks do.

Looking forward to following along with you!

    Regards,

    Chris

  8. T6,

Thanks for the additional pictures of your T6! You did a great job pulling this out of the weeds! I had not thought about removing the tanks to get more access to the steering clutches.

Your machines ATECO loader is identical to mine.

    Regards,

     Chris

  9. Grant, Folks,

Thanks for the kind words! I was new here too and getting a warm welcome to a new world helps folks settle in. I like to jaw a lot. Often check at least 3 different forums several times a day during my retirement coffee breaks! Yes It would be great to meet some of the very nice folks on these forums. I have gained some good friends through tractors and projects! I really look forward to see others dive in and really go to town on these old units. Some awesome work has been done on these little TD series tracked units on this forum! I enjoy seeing the pictures and follow the work!

Not sure I am ready for under-carriage rebuild on the TD6, But if I could have Matt helping it might just happen. He is a machinist also which sure wouldn't hurt if we needed some parts made. Since I don't know the good and the bad conditions of these rollers frames and wear items its hard for me to judge the amount of work required? Now on a Allis-Chalmers WD series I can look one of those over and have a good idea if it has problems. And yes I still bring them home when that have big problems!:)

    Regards,

     Chris

  10. Dennis,

I bet they have some very dark walnut stain that would get you close to the same shade.

Is that flat Alice in those pictures?

Nice job bringing your dad's desk back into service.

I like this old furniture also. I did that old dresser of mine and just bought a drop front desk that was in my grandmothers house! Love the family history connections. Hope the kids, grand kids, and great grandkids appreciate the old pieces too!

You did real good! It is a unique writing desk!

    Regards,

     Chris

  11. Folks,

Talked to Matt and the TD6 will have winter storage inside at his neighbors farm. Matt wants to get into the worn rollers on this TD6. Not sure I am up to that project. Lots of very worn components in the under carriage, moving parts. Also the channel guide rails are very worn too! If it was going to be fixed right it could be a long drawn out project. Will have to think about that. I have done just enough of this old stuff to know that its not for the weak of heart, and or wallet!

We are in to PA deer season. Our son got a real nice 9 point! Was helping him get it ready for grinding yesterday.

Hope things are good in Red Power land! Thanks for checking on me.

    Regards,

     Chris

  12. DSDC,

Ahhhh Yes either a sugarhouse or a very nice operation to make spirits!:) Come visit Maple Trader.com if you want to talk maple stuff. Not sure where you are located? We are having a great maple event Lake Erie Maple Expo this Friday and Saturday Nov 8 and 9th ,in Albion PA. 16401 (zip). www.pamaple.org

Yes I see folks that have given up on all types of machines too. They can suck up the time and the dollars and have many, many things that need fixed.

Will be interesting to see if your loader system is a factory unit or home built? Sounds factory or a good craftsman!

Looks like your TD6 has found a good home!

    Regards,

     Chris

  13. DSDC,

I am a little lost without mine near by. It will be inside for the winter which is a good thing compared to the blue tarp it sets under here at home. I like your area where your TD6 sets! Hop deep is your lean to area 12-14 feet? I love lean to's I need the building to add on the lean to!:)

It sounds like you know your way around these types of machines pretty well.

Hhad the same feeling as you trying to run all the controls!:) You said your grill needs work? Looks pretty good to me.

Went with the 165 degree temp thermostat, of course I didn't get the right one twice, third time was a charm. Pretty typical of how I work. Had similar issues not coming up to operating temps.

I have formed a bond with this old TD6 loader since it was my uncles. He never abused it just used the heck out of it.

Thanks for the pictures too. It sure helps us get up to speed on your machine! Which sure looks like a keeper!

It should go back to gas if everything is functioning. Does it start good on gas? Might need a tune up? And also could be 7 other things too!:)

    Regards,

     Chris

  14. DSDC,

    Welcome,

Thanks for coming aboard! Great picture! I haven't seen a loader like that yet either. But I am pretty new to the whole TD6 thing. You have a good looking machine that is doing some work for you right now. Others like Pete are down in the trenches trying hard to get one working and moving!

I have done some minor repairs on mine. I am better at cosmetics than hydraulics. My "6" has "float", you raise it and it floats down!:)

You may have checked out my thread one the unit I have.

If I can help let me know. Looking forward to more pictures too! Yea hard to believe these are in the 65-70 year old range!

     Regards,

     Chris
