  3. The people who have so much fear of "automatic" or "assault" weapons don't realize how much damage anyone could do with a 12 gauge pump and a pocket full of shells, a lever action rifle, a big revolver with a speed loader, or any kind of repeater for that matter. When their prey consists of little kids and unarmed adults, they're gonna be able to kill large numbers. Same goes for a corn knife, or an axe, or a can of gas, or any number of awful weapons. Would the psycho have killed 21 or 22 people with one of those other weapons? Maybe not, but he would have killed a large number. Concentrating on the weapon is a misdirection to keep everyone divided and defenseless, while the real cause of the carnage is not addressed.

  4. Let's look back to when times were better and compare them with today, although they seem to be trying extremely hard to erase history it still provides an excellent reference Generally your Dad worked and provided for his family and your Mom raised and cared for the kids and had some plan as a team that wasn't distracted by a ton of external influences, taxation levels were reasonable as was the purchasing power of the dollar, there was love and respect, good moral values and this was widely supported by country, communities and worthwhile organizations. Kids were given chores and learned a work ethic and discovered spending power of the dollar, there was no credit so you got to think long and hard about saving and goals, then when you had free time you had imagination and played outside until dark with or without others and made stuff or took stuff apart to see how it worked How much of this seemingly successful system is still alive today and if it exists at all what percentage of the minority, then weigh those numbers against urban vs rural

  5. When are we going to put discipline and respect for one another back into school? When are we going to get “wokeness “ out of schools? Schools are the canary in a coal mine in regards to what’s happening in society. Think about this for a minute. We shuttered the schools for a fear of covid, yet where the covid fear was riled up, the isolation, anxiety, and other social issues were not addressed by the idiocy of doing this. The time when kids are most vulnerable we have predators in our schools telling them if you feel like being a cat that’s ok. If you feel like being the opposite sex, or 16 other choices, that’s ok. If you’re a boy that isn’t very good at sports, pretend you’re a girl and then maybe you can excel. We have grown our children into sock puppets to do as we wish with. Whatever happened to raising strong self confident children that can face the crap that society has become. It’s so easy to armchair this horrible event, but let’s use this as that canary in a coal mind and actually start making lives worth more, and actually address the psychological problems that this culture crap has embraced, wrongfully so. Blame the gun. Push for more gun control, but remember one thing. 40 years ago there were more children and young adults who grew up hunting. 40 years ago it was common place to see guns in high school kids vehicles. 40 years ago, kids knew respect and reality. poof if you must. But God help those in need, because society has decided to take that mental illness and use it for political gains. Right or wrong this culture war has ruined a generation of kids, and the answer isn’t to find out why, but to push gun control. Gun control isn’t going to solve this culture crisis of mental illness. That you can take to the bank.

  8. This is a tool I built primarily for very large internal snap rings in multi reduction boxes on Plant equipment. You can make fine adjustments in tight spaces. I have almost always used the end tips but I put a pair of pins at 90 degrees on the other end while I was at it. The pins are made of alloy steel set screws and precision ground to get the length and diameter desired, I have several tips made to fit rings I dealt with. I made it because the large heavy duty pliers don't fit in some of the places I had to access. The tool will hold inside or outside as needed.

  9. From what I've read from your post you keep talking about gun control. No matter how much gun control you have the bad guys will have / find ways to have one. We as parents and all involved with kids up bring need to teach and show them right from wrong and to be aware of their behavior and to have the right back to correct they as needed not just us as parents but the teacher's also.

  10. I got a couple boxes of manuals, there is a lot there, and if I put it all up at once i will get myself confused. So stay tuned, I will put up a few a day as i go through them, if someone wants them I will put your name on them. When I get the boxes empty i will send them to whoever claimed them. I only ask for shipping reimbursement, these came free to me, so they are free to whoever can use them. most are implement manuals, some IH some NH and a few other goodies in there too. eventually i will have some small boxes of IH parts going the same way.

  11. I don't think mental illness is the proper term except in that it's a result of indoctrination. Inflate every kid's self image, "your so special" starts with the first day of daycare... Confuse them through puberty teaching every sexual deviation conceived. Remove every shred of recognition with participation trophies and no-score sports. Remove any and all danger so the pain of a bruised ego is unbearable. Sandpaper their nerves to a razor's edge with Critical Race Theory and Environmentalism.... Then drive it all home & stir it together with a healthy dose of victimology... It's Not Your Fault, the whole world has it out for you. Yes, we're going to continue to see these events happen. There's an unchecked vanity combining with a lack of responsibility that creates a desperation that cannot be suppressed in the minds of many. Until the root causes are cured, the sudden exposure to reality is going to continue to cause people to do desperate/horrible things.

  12. Pumped ~2gal oil through the filter into the engine with that electric pump. Engine gauge showed 10psi and oil flowed from the rocker shafts. Hooked that pump to the fuel system and primed that also but found leaking crossover lines (head to head). Try and get them today.

  13. Might get a bracket off the Detroit side motor mount and find a wicker basket just the right size for a box of beer! I do plan to drive it to the beverage store! Could always add a keg trailer or sideways with leather straps like a good old St. Bernard... XXX labeled barrel! Cleaned and mounted the remote oil filter permanently just now. Tapped a fitting in to allow me to use this portable pump to pre lube the engine, oil pressure gauge installed, fitting the new fuel filter element rn, cleaning the housing and scraping old o-rings. Got my torches running on propane so I had heat to remove stuck oil gallery plugs. One more beverage and lights out. Sometimes get more done in the evenings with no interruptions eh...

  14. To me the person who committed this act is mentally sick and a coward. Mentally sick to be able to do such a thing and a coward going to a place where he knew no one could stop him. As a person who held his child while he died, buried him and lived through the pain afterward I hope this scum suffered extreme pain before he died.

  15. And here's something no one is talking about - if you tallied up the shootings in just eight cities - NYC, Baltimore, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, LA, and San Francisco, you'd come up with way, way more than 20 killed every single week. Most of them are black, and most of those are young, some even babies. And every mayor's working on this plan or that plan to make it better, while prosecutors with agendas let the killers (the few that are caught) back on the street within days, if not hours, while they whine about guns, and prosecute good people who try to defend themselves. To me, they don't seem like they're really serious at all about stopping the killing. They just want to grandstand.

  16. I have never put seat time in one. Can't think of anyone out here with an auto shift truck. I don't mind rowing through the 18sp in the Pete, it shifts awful easy and smooth. I have gotten used to an automatic in a pickup. Getting pretty tough to find a new one with a manual is what I've heard from people with the money to buy one. From pokydots on feet to truck transmissions in one page...... I love this forum😄

  17. Teachers need to be allowed to teach, not a public babysitter. Parents need to be allowed to discipline inappropriate behavior. Current laws/ rules do not allow teachers or parents to be effective. Kids know it and are getting away with everything....... We no longer have control. The young formative minds (with much to learn) are in charge. And our society is OFF THE RAILS!

  18. The crawler is a IH td-40 with a factory cab. If it was a td-35 you would see the intake valve housing for the gas start system sticking through the hood. The td-40 had enough room under the hood so they don't stick through. The cab was an option but you don't see to many around. I have one just like it on a td-35.

So, I guess we won't be taking it to the Red Power Round Up this year like I was hoping. Maybe the new owner will take it. Also, the new owner was so happy with the paint, he wants me to paint his 7130 Magnum too. I'll post pics of it on here when I get it done.

  22. We as a society also have to accept there are evil people in this world that human life means nothing. Is this a mental illness? I do not know. I grew up in a house that had a loaded gun by every door without problems My boys did the same with no problems. So accessibility to guns is ruled out, where as in my world where 90% of the adults are carrying. I wish I lived in a world where I didn't feel its necessary to carry a weapon but I don't see that happening in my lifetime.

I just made some hoses after work to allow me to prime the oil and fuel systems. Talked to a fella about the rack set up and governor, he’s an old school DD mechanic/truck repair shop owner and sounds like I got her ready to start as far as that stuff goes. Finish thermostats and upper rad connections, picked up oil pressure gauge and fittings today also. Getting down to minor details. Fuel tank last major part and will be in the works soon.

  24. https://www.k12academics.com/school-shootings/history-school-shootings-united-states There were shootings 40 years ago, 1 difference is that if you skim the list (its gross to say skim the list in this case I know... But, weapons used were simple revolvers, or rifles.. And this is just me observing something for further discussion, but, 40 years ago did we have as many automatic weapons as we do now? To me, its going to be really hard to stop anyone with an automatic military style weapon even if we arm teachers with handguns, But, if that kid had a simple rifle or hand gun rather than whatever auto or speed trigger he had maybe it would help some too. And im not opposed to people with proper training like ex police or military having advanced weapons either, but for that kid to just have to pass a background check and plop the cash down without demonstrating any knowledge or ability to handle that weapon... I cant understand how that is good for America or does anything to protect us or make you and I feel safer. Ive been doing a bit of research on Japanese gun laws and I guess its very difficult to get a weapon in that country but it is possible, You have to fill out a mountain of paperwork, and have mental psych evals done, go through proper training and demonstrate proficiency with the weapon, and also be an active member in a club type environment. And its this last part that got me thinking a bit about it is how alot of these shooters are "loaners" ... I think ANY club group environment where you go and people are excited to be there is good for the mental aspect of everyone there. Maybe thats a stupid idea, and yeh its a hassle for alot of us but I dont know. There is only 1 way that any type of regulation on guns will happen or work in this country and that is if it is driven from gun enthusiasts and owners themselves. And there are alot of smart capable enthusiasts of firearms out there that could do it better than any "Law" could that is tried to force down their throats.

  26. Exactly, and if the subject is brought to a forefront you are subject to the new "woke" thinking, the misshandling of teacher rights and parent rights by a nosy we know better culture is/has created long term problems that go back years, I don't have/know answers to start a reverse of this tide, but what I do know is I brought my kids up under these rules of I'm your parent, not your friend, there are rules and you need to understand the reasons why you should follow them, it is good for you and good for a proper society. Sculpting of minds by lefty woke teachers should be discussed at home and not taken as gospel by parents that don't want to be seen as running against the grains of thought that should be instilled at home, reading writing and math should be taught at school, lifestyle planning is a parents job, because of that lack we are paying a very high price.

  27. Some schools in Texas have taken measures to protect against school shootings. Both Ballinger, Tx (south of Abilene) and Claude, Tx (near Amarillo) have armed teachers. Maybe it works and maybe it don't, but there sure ain't been no school shootings there.... Forgot to add that they started these programs in 2018.

  30. The shape of the radiator is wrong for Cat or AC so that leads me to think the IH TD 35 or 40. Cab is most likely home built. Yes lots of horses to pull a combine on the hills. Somewhere in the pages and pages of this thread there are some real nice picture of horse pulled combines. The earliest combines where powered by a ground drive bull wheel rather than engines. So 30 to 40 horses where used to pull one combine. After engines powered the thrashing only 20 some horses where needed. My grandpa bought a Cat diesel 35 in 1934 to pull his combine. I am sure he would of bought less horsepower except the combine needed that much tractor in front of it. To pay for that much tractor he took all manor of heavy tillage jobs, will to run 24 hours a day. A home made cab was added to help keep warm at night. My dad was the night time operator. Being a horse lover, dad never had a tractor with working lights in my time and never anything good to say about the old wooden cab in grandpa's barn. Having run a modern combine a few hours with the AC broke a cab without AC is BAD.

  32. The evening news reported that the shooter was a loner who was bullied in school. I am here to tell you that I was bullied when I was young too. But I never grabbed a gun and shot anyone! What I did do, when I had enough of the bully's words, was knock him on his ass! He understood that, I assure you. The issue stopped. Now we can't hit anyone, talking is the answer...... words don't fix everything.......

  37. Unfortunately this isn’t a correct statement. In many, if not most cases, mental illness cannot just be “dealt with by toughening up”. Mental illness is just same as a physical illness. You don’t tell someone with cancer or rheumatoid arthritis to simply buck up buttercup, and it will go away. People just cannot control it easily if at all. Edit: I screwed up the quote I guess. I tried to quote “Mental illness is a state of mind, it’s up to the person how to deal with it”

  41. The "criminal" I used is a catch all phrase and maybe not appropriate here, as you say they are not criminals until after the fact. I believe you got to the root of the problem in that these shooters are miswired, have a hole in them. Have been beaten down by some stimulus and finally broke. Given up hope, lashed out. We all have a trigger point. Most of us can keep ourselves under control. Speaking strictly for myself, at 62, I am under stresses today that I did not forsee and it is wearing on me. It has altered how I interact with some people. Patience and tolerance level is moving. I would assume their are others out there like me. We need to remain strong, try to stay clear headed and come up with reasonable solutions to remain civil in what is becoming an increasingly uncivilized world.

  44. The solution is not more or less guns, the solution is finding these people before they commit the crime. People get all tuned up about making guns illegal and less accessible, regardless of whether or not the gun was legally obtained (which I doubt) the crime was illegal. If it wasn't a gun, it would have been a bomb, if it wasn't a bomb it would have been poison or who knows what. if a mouse keeps getting into your Oreo cookies, you can keep replacing the Oreo cookies or you can deal with the mouse and solve the problem for good.

Gun free zones is the one common denominator in the places these sick cowards target. All these misdirected individuals who will use this to call for stricter gun control, I challenge you to make your intentions known and put a sign up in your yard. "There are no guns in this house"

Got that stubborn glow plug out today, after soaking it in auto transmission fluid for a few days, and I made up a clamp to lock on to the top of the glow plug with an attachment to a slide hammer. When I went to restore it, I decided to remove the cab and make it an open station tractor with fenders and make it a 1456. I stripped the paint, repainted it, used new tires and decals.
