  1. Finally got the 1456 about where I want it! Now I just need to find a good set of Firestone field and roads for duals to have matched rubber. I gave it some goodies like we all enjoy, wheel weights, hubs, and a quick hitch. I took some pictures after a pressure washing. Enjoy! I went with different decals on the quick hitch, I wanted to be different, I like the look, tell me what you think? I see my decal placement on the right side needs some improvement! 😩

  3. Today was a long day of baling hay. The hay was thick as heck. Windrows wider than the baler and front axle plowing the whole time. My buddy got done with his hay a couple miles down the road so he came over to help me out as I had a whole bunch to do. We both have identical machines. He kicked a bale out on a hill and as he pulled away it decided to roll down the hill. So slow motion across the field I watched it rolling toward him. I thought I was gonna see a 1500lb crash on his machine. Well needless to say I failed to keep mind and eyes on task and cruised right on through my buzzer. The b

  5. Made it up to Penfield IL for the I and I show yesterday. For being the same year as half century of progress I was suprised by the number of tractors there. They were trying to have as many IH v8's there as possible and I bet there was over 30 there.

  6. You bet im keeping it. Only a fool would sell it. Already had some nice offers but turned them down. As usual people want the ones I dont have for sale. Theres a big difference between southern & northern paint. Odds are condition is better up north but they still need work to meet my specs. This 1456 still needs items buttoned up but i have to move on to the next one. Theres only 325hrs difference between these 2 1456s. They sold 900mi apart, farmed different crops with different equipment and drivers. One has firestones all around the other has goodyears all around. Lower hr tractors are

  9. All we make on our farm now is square bales of hay mainly for horses. We sell all of our hay. Started out with a New Holland 68, which we did a refurb on, including new maple plunger slides. Still have it, but moved up to a JD 348 w/pan kicker and kicker wagons. Coupled with our new barn, we can quickly get our hay baled, pulled into the barn out of any weather for unloading later. No more fire drills trying to get hay out of the weather...

  16. Well it's been a little while fineally back at it mowed road ditches in 2 subdivision. And a 65 acre hay feild that was about full of weeds he was hoping to give the grass a chance to take over I'm sceptical but he was tickled pink to have it done. Pto was weak before I started the field the last 2 acres was really good grass and cooked the clutches out on the pto... Sure was easy to reclutch. Didn't realize how bad it was till fixed. Roof leaks around this roof hatch at the church...i caulked a bunch of stuff hoping it's fixed. Time for new boots Life is good.

  17. MTO, That wooden platform, with a rope through a hole would reveal an 18" deep hole. Had the noose not lifted him high enough, they'd have pulled the rope allowing him to stretch farther. That black velvet bag over his head shows it snapped his neck, as his head lops over. After I got out of Army Basic Training in 1961, I later went to work in a Lewistown body shop during the winters. One of the mechanics in that Olds, Cad, GMC dealership told me his mother had that black velvet bag and used it as a knitting bag. My brother wrote a book back in the 1970's about this incident; the Hanging

  18. We used to pull against that 1256 back in the late 70's with our 1206, I forget who used to own it. Here is a pic of it that I had from a few years back

  20. I used to love Diesel engine trucks. The power stroke and Cummins were great, then came the Duramax. All had their quirks, but they all had great power and longevity. In fact my ole Blue power stroke is my go to hauler. Now they are so complicated, have so much for emissions, and cost so much, I just can not accept the cost for a truck that 90% of the time is just hauling my fat butt around. It cost more for the truck, more for the maintenance, more for the fuel, and most of my trucks leave when they are either shot, in an accident, or put out to pasture, so resale has nothing

  24. We always had New Holland balers, 311 and a 575 at the end. Tough to beat a NH baler. Very few people still do small squares anymore, mostly just Mennonites and horse people. Can’t get kids to help anymore. We do some big squares for calf hay and bale wheat straw but chop everything else. Local NH dealer has this SP NH baler that they have had sitting in the back weeds for years that they have drug out and are fixing up. Rare bird in these parts.

  33. IH 1490 mower-conditioner cutting sudan grass, yesterday, 33 days after it was planted. Most of this was approaching 5 feet tall. Amazing. Almost all of the weather we've had since the planting date has been very warm with quite a few very humid days thrown in for good measure. Perfect growing conditions for this crop. We will round bale and wrap this in the morning. Keith-

  35. Most people are smart enough to see right through the crap that goes along with all these types of shows . I guess that’s what the entertainment business has come to these days . The bad part is that lots of people are stupid enough to think it’s all real. We enjoy counting all the different camera angles when they set up some big dramatic shot , Ice road truckers was such a load of BS . They always had a camera in just the right place . Love it when they are filming an adventure scene and some survivalist is hanging off a cliff holding onto a vine and two

  37. I’m not sure that bigger is better anymore. I realize the economy in size and all, but where does that scale start going the other way? It’s only a matter of time before some disease outbreak raises it’s ugly head again and really cripples the ag economy. Something like mad cow would wipe out the milk supply in short order. I’m not sure it would be elevated to a National crisis status, but the what if’s are real. I think the idea of eliminating the small farmers is going to be a bad bad decision. One that we will be told was made by the co-ops, therefore the farmers them

  39. Uni system could put you in a SP cheap..........but you could cut silage about the same speed with scissors. As far as pull types go, Deere built a good one and parts are available. I would think that you could rebuild one to infinity as parts will be there.

  42. Spent a few summers as a kid on a wagon behind my uncle's 273 being pulled by the Oliver 88. Yes it was hot dirty work but I miss those days. Life was simpler. When dad and I were still farming and doing wheat we bought a 273 to bale wheat straw. That was a good baler too.

  43. lol, Good neighbors are getting scarce. And nobody I know has a flatbed big enough. I'm looking for local truckers, but so far the prices are so high that I could buy a used flatbed and borrow a friend;s truck and do it myself for about the same price! You're in Central PA, want to be my neighbor? 😜
