I don't know where the Professor and Roger (the University) are. I got bored here in class and went to the shop and pulled out some more scrap iron and have been making a 3 pt hitch for my lift pole that I have had set up to mount on the rear of the watermelon truck. Sorta got it tacked in place today. Setting it up so to mount onto the 2090 Case's quick hitch. Will park it on the rear of the TD-14 (which doesn't appear to be going a anywhere soon). Ways to go yet------but beginning to take shape. Everything is from "in stock inventory"------beats the hel! out of hauling it to the scrap yard. And-------should be handy in handling more rusty/dusty scrap iron!!!? DD2 points

Got down to the archives this morning. I have 2 versions of IH 86 series 4WD brochures, the red cab and earlier white cab. I'm not sure how many versions IH printed. I've always preferred the looks of the red cab tractors but I'll try to go through both of them and post some pics this week. I like the console Jon1 point

12_Guy------ Good question. The general lay of the Delta lands is that of a slightly higher elevation along the River bank (location of Levee) with natural elevations falling slightly as you move away from the River. Additionally-------natural elevations fall from the north to the South. Upper end of Mississippi Delta begins near Memphis with elevations in the 220' MSL range------lower end is near Vicksburg in the 80--85' MSL range (a distance of 200+ miles). Keep in mind that overflowing rivers (streams) tend to create a "terracing effect" along there banks from silt settlements------and therefore the higher surface elevations along the River itself. So-----the seep water flow from the relief wells tends to follow the natural drainage pattern of the land and away from the Levee-----primarily flowing through existing drainage ditches and on into larger canals or small rivers moving the water southward and into the Yazoo River which empties into the Mississippi near Vicksburg. Interesting fact pertaining to the Mississippi side of the Delta: from the upper end near Memphis to the lower end near Vicksburg-------there is only one small drain carrying water directly into the Mississippi. Near 99% of the drainage from the Delta area never gets to the Mississippi until it reaches the Mississippi via the Yazoo River at Vicksburg. The small area that drains directly into the Mississippi is done so by a lift pump station near Tunica, Mississippi. There are no cuts or drains through the mainline Levee from Memphis to Vicksburg. All of that said: when the Mississippi River stage is high and starts backing up the Yazoo--------backwater flooding begins to happen across the low elevations of the south Delta. No doubt-------the small flows from the relief wells along the Levee contribute to the backwater levels. But it is the lesser of two evils in the fact that the relief wells help prevent sand boils from undermining the Levee structure and we experience a Levee break and flood the entire Delta area. Will try to pull a couple of maps that might better explain what I have just gone through here. (Picture is worth a 1,000 words)? DD1 point
