  1. Went out to see the 504 tonight It has a US Corp of engineers tag on the from. It was purchased by the US army in 64 the cab had this tag there is water in the engine oil, but the exhaust cap is missing, no oil in the radiator though. Started up and ran. Throttle was buggered up. The dash wiring was a mess, along with most of the wiring. Tires were new.

  2. Anson, that ton rating does not make much sense to me either. . I mean a 3 ton truck here generally carries 300+ bushels of grain (maybe 18,000 pounds) Thats more like 9 tons by my figuring. Even if you look at the GVW rating on my 1600 Loadstar which is just under the 20,000 pound mark, that is still way over 3 ton capacity. I will add that back in the days when overweight fines were not so much an issue, I used to gross pretty near 30,000 pounds on the old 1600 IH. I blame the previous owner. He went and put a 15 foot box on it and if you fill it up you've got 350 bushels of wheat. I will say that the little 304 is a lot happier hauling closer to 200 bushels though.
