466 injector pumps

14 posts in this topic

we are putting a 466 in our 1066. we were told that we should get a 11mm head for our pump that it would give us some more hp. we still want to use the tractor on the farm as well as tractor pull with it and was told that would be good. was wondering what you guys thought about this and looking for some opinions. any ideas are appreciated!

The Mack 11mm pump is a good option if you are going to farm with it also. I assume you will use better injectors, you may consider lines also. Some of the AMBAC pumped truck 466s had larger lines, this is a inexpensive way for more HP. I assume that you will change the T-04 to a 3-LM??

If it was me I would find a 13mm AMBAC and use that just for pulling, simple to switch pumps for farming..

If you are wanting something that you can put in and leave on to farm with go with an 11mm, otherwise find a 13mm and switch pumps for pulling. I have set a couple 1066's up with 466's and 3lm-466 turbo, 5 hole injectors and 11mm head in the pump and they run pretty good depending on what class you are pulling in. They really amaze me how they run just running them everyday. The one I left set at about 210 HP and it didn't even smoke at all but the responsiveness of the tractor was awesome, compared to just turning up a 10mm to that horsepower. Thats just my 2 cents.

we had a 3lm on the 414 and will put it on the 466. the 466 we have is out of a ih wheel loader from a neighbor. not sure what injectors are in it. have to pull them out and see what we have. the lines look bigger on the 466 than the 414. where is a good place to find a 11mm or 13mm? we pull in farm stock classes but most of the tractors run really good. we had the 414 putting out 250 hp with the stock pump turned all the way up and a 3lm on it.

Keep checking on the PullOff page, lots of listings as guys move up a class or two. There are some "Tricks" that can be done to the stock to maximise the fuel output..

Your stock pump will put out about 280 hp , like Gonzo said there are some tricks you can do to that pump to get some more out of it. You could put a 13mm pump on .093 lines and big injectors then turn it down for farming or just put the stock one back on and leave the lines and injectors in if you want. Just don't buy a 13 mm pump and think this will work with the stock lines and injectors, it won't and it will seize the head in the pump.

You can pm me and I can help you out with timing and other things that go along with these set ups.

does the 13mm pump have decent longevity? i was told they have to be machined out correct?

I can also set one up with a 13MM hydraulic head. The 13's are pretty reliable, the 15's tend to be fragile as glass. All are custom made.

I talked to local diesel shop about having a 13mm pump built. They said if I find the 13mm head they will put it together for 500 bucks. They said the only problem with going to a 13mm is possible siezure of the head. My idea was just like yours put on the 13 for pulling then putting the 10mm on for farming. I have a spare pump just need the parts to build it...

I ordered a new 3lm the other day picked it up today. Man it looks huge compared to the T04!!

yeah the head alone they say is close to a grand. yeah they say you need bigger lines and injectors so the fuel has a place to go. yeah the 3lm sure is a step up! T04 looks like a shrimp next to the 3lm, sounds sweeter than the T04 as well

As everyone has said. Upgrade the lines to .093 (I also stock these) Upgrade the injectors 5x20 would be a great place to be. (currently out of stock) Without these 2 items its a matter of time before the pump siezes .

I dont know whay kind of farming you are planning but I had this setup on my first puller and left it on year around. Yes it used a bunch of fuel. Yes you had to use it sensible or it would break things for you. (neighbor borrowed it to bush hog.......... gear box left its mounting and went over the fence when he hit something, tractor never even pulled down when that happened.)

Its yours and you ultimatly need to decide how much you want out of it and how you are gonna use it.

13mm heads alone are approching $750.00 then you also pay for the rebuild. I would advise AGAINST just putting a head in an old pump. If the gov parts are worn you can get into a runaway situation in a big hurry ............. but it gets real quiet after a rod comes out of the block #2 rod knocks the pump of and breaks it too..... but for some reason #5 is the one that "normally" exits first. (I can take pictures of holes in blocks for ya) I buy lots of core engines and parts so I do have a pile of cast that looks this way.

I could build you a pump or sell you a core if you want a different pump shop to do the work. PM me if I can help you out Thanks Keith

Pardon my ignorance gents, but I'm curious: what's the reasoning for using Mack or AMBAC pumps instead of a Bosch inline, for instance?

Are they simply a bolt-in easy way to deliver the extra fuel to the injector?

Well I for one was gonna suggest that for performance and simpilcity but I was thinking he wanted to stay "stock" looking.

Absolutely!! Switching to an A pump would make it way easier to use the same pump all the time farming or pulling as long as what you get comes from a shop that can setup the fuel adjustment screw and gov like I do. The .093 lines and 5x20 injectors would still be a good idea......... could go a bit smaller on the injectors if need be 5x18 if it was too much for you while farming.
