23.1-34 tires

7 posts in this topic

Im not too sure what to do with tires here. I have a wore out origonal set of 23.1-34 firestones on a 1466, and as far as I know, only firestone makes these things anymore unless you go with forestry tires. I bought a set of good used forestry 700-55-34 tires, but they are too short. the sidewall is short compared to the 23.1-34 and will drop the tractor 2" from the already worn out tires. gonna return them. The cheapest I could find the 23.1-34 tires for was $1700 each! well thats more than I bought the darn tractor for if I get a set of those. can't find used ones either, at least when taking to people or on the net. anyone know of any 23.1-34 of another solution (using 20.8-34 or 18.4-34 which I do not want to do, the 23's are perfect for the thing) or am I just gonna have to bite the bullet and pay big. the tractor is probably worth it now, totally gone over and many new parts, but $3850 plus installation is not what I had in mind for just 2 tires for a 1973 tractor!

...Just my 2ยข worth but...

If it was mine, I'd be looking at changing out wheels and all for 38 inch rubber. You might not like the look of the 38" compared to what you are used to seeing but they are cheaper and a whole lot easier to find.

If you are dead set against changing to 38's then also keep in mind that there are likely some combines that run the 34's so you'll want to try the combine salvages also.

Like Farmer Tom suggested, I was going to suggest you contact combine salvage yards for used 23.1 x 34 tires. A lot of salvaged combines still have excellent tires.

Tire Town shows 23.1 x 34 R-2's for less than $800 each and I think Nebraska Tire also has them. I'm not sure about Miller Tire. I would think you could find a local dealer that can get them for less than $1000 each if you want to go new.
