Scavenger Valve

6 posts in this topic

Thanks to MB.Cat for all the info on the aux pump and scavenger valve. I'm feeling more optamistic about getting the aux pump fixed and back in place!

I was about to remove the scavenger valve but thaught I should get more info first.

What is the function of the scavenger valve?

What sticks that would cause fuel to be in the lubrication oil?

Finaly what do I need to do to it to ensure this is not the problem?

Thanks again for the help! Hope to put her to work this weekend!

Greg

Purpose of scavenger assemble is to return fuel that leaks past distributor block valves back into the fuel system.

The plunger # 19 sticks in the open position, the spring is suposed to push it home to close off the fuel from the tank when engine not running.

The screen (#20) at the base of the plunger (#19) also acts as a seat , if this screen gets plugged it can also cause diesel fuel to get into base of injection pump.

I was able to remove #13 and #14 (o-ring in mine) but don't seem to be able to coax anything else out. Tried threading a nut onto end of #16 which is exposed but no luck.

What is the proper method of removing all the inner workings?

Thanks Greg

After posting my last message, I went back out and was able to remove evrything accept the screen #20.

Does the screen #20 normally come out as well? I tried to use a suction hose but no luck. I can't even see in there to know if there is actually a screen but it does feel like it when I insert a dental pick and lightly scape the end of the openning.

I also found that mine is slightly different in that my #19 does not have the smaller diameter end but rather is the same diameter from end to end and shorter aprox by the length of the smaller diameter piece. Is this simply a different type or am I missing part of a part?

Thanks Greg

The # 19 is actually two pieces, the inner barrel is most likely stuck inside the outer piece. This has happened to mine from sitting. Should free up pretty easily. Also, the screen will stick in the end, but should come out with picks. I have also had to do that. Good Luck.
