TD-6 Crawler Manuals

Recommended Posts

This is my first time posting at Red Power and I was hoping you guys could help me. I have an IH TD-6 crawler with a BE bullgrader. The tractor serial number plate says TDBK 37742. I believe this is a 1955 if I understand the chart I looked at. I want to make sure I get the correct manuals for the tractor. My worry is that it seems like there were differences on most of the various crawlers I looked at before buying this one. Call me conservative but I won't operate or do work on the tractor until I get the operators and service manuals. Tractor came with a parts catalog and the operators manual for the blade. The YT website and others sell several manuals for the TD-6 but there are different series, etc. I was hoping people here could help me get the right manuals and possible tell me more about my crawler based on the serial number. Do I even have the year right? Thanks!

Welcome to RP :) they have some sharp puddle-jumper experts on here :D You are correct on 1955, this would make it a TD6 as the 61 series didn't come out until 57.

Binderbooks is a good source for your manuals with nice original recopys.

Big second for what HT had to say.

Specifically, you want the ISS-TD6/9Set listed under TD6, especially given what you already have.

Welcome to the world of REDcats Dave (maybe yers is yellow but it's red at heart) :) Yep, have to agree with the dual stack boys, surprising the level of intelligence around here :D;)

Well, I could run off a bunch of specs but you'll see it in the manuals. TD6 made it's debut in 1940 and remained virtually unchanged until the 61 series came out. Lots were sold so there's a purdy good supply of used parts still around. Still can get most engine parts new but they're kinda spendy. Most common problems are leaky R. main seals, stuck steering clutches, and leaky injection pumps. It'd be wise to check the crankase oil & injection pump oil for signs of diesel fuel. Well, good luck with it, quite surprising the work they'll do :)

BTW, on the end of the serial number is most likely a 4 digit suffix code, special features the crawler had from the factory. In the back of the parts manual, it sez what the the codes are.

Thanks guys! I ordered the recommended manuals from Binder today. This tractor will need some work. Won't get into it now because I only allow myself one project at a time and I am tied up for the next week or two on that. Might need a little work (I hope!) or it may need a LOT of work (just more fun!) but either way I will head back here for advice. Never worked on a crawler before! Appreciate the help on those manuals as it was a little confusing. :o

Dave, I found that if you can repair/restore a crawler, you can do almost ANYTHING! Good luck! We will all be here to help!

Here is my TD-6 I finished a little more than a month ago. (Notice my grandpa's toy in the background)post-1969-1187912540_thumb.jpg

I like those lights a lot and I envy that red paint. Mine WAS red but someone covered it in thick yellow paint a while back. I should thank him because the metal is in very good shape. :)

I don't think I have ever taken any of this tractor, but I will do so and post them so you guys can have a look. It's a nice little crawler. Thanks for the comments! I am looking forward to tackling this challenge!

Dave, welcome. While you are waiting for your manuals to arrive, I uploaded a parts, operations/owners, and service manuals to a free download site. They are big files so be patient. You have 7 days or 100 downloads before it runs out. Good luck. TT
