656 Hydro, 826, 1026 and 1456 Release Date?

Recommended Posts

I have this small service manual that is dated May 1970 (GSS 1410) for 826, 1026 and 1456 tractors. Were the 656 hydro, 826, 1026 and 1456 all released at the same time? And is that when the 656's start getting tube grilles instead of the white screen? My Hotline serial number book lists production dates for 656 hydro, 826, 1026 and 1456 starting in 1969, and that's when the 1256 stopped production? I seem to recall a brochure posted on here with pictures of them all, and maybe the 544 with them.

To add to Easons reply, I will add that the Farmall 656 gear drive came out in mid 1965 with white face 06 series styling. When the 656 hydro came out in 1967 they changed the hydro styling to the 56 series styling with the bar grille and red side panels on the radiator shell. The 56 series International logo and emblems  were used instead of the  06 variety (Farmall) on the Hydros . It was not until the 544 release at the beginning of 1968 that the Farmall 656 gear drive styling was changed to the 56 series styling. The International 656 styling was 56 series from the start in early 1967 but used 06 series nameplate and 06 series 656 emblems. That all changed at the beginning of 1968 and the 56 series style International nameplate and 56 series 656 emblems were used. A bit complicated but that is the way it was. Then in 1971 the International logos and emblems were changed from metallic ones to decals as a cost reduction measure across the board on all 544 and 656 models. The 656 was replaced at the end of 1972 with the 666 but the 544 soldiered on one more year until the end of 1973. The last Farmall 544s used the new 666 wide front axle center section in 1973.

No such creature as a '69 1026.

Might be like vehicles with build date mid to late year then sold as following year model

I have build dates and there were 8 1026 farmalls shipped prior to November 1969 and 1 wheatland.  I have to find my record but I think the wheatland was dismantled.

Slightly off the subject, the model lineage went 656 hydro, 666 hydro (Hydro 70) and then Hydro 86.

What happened after the 544 hydro, was it the end of its line?    To me the 656 was the "Farmall M" and the 544 was the "Farmall H" of their era

The 544 hydro was dropped and there was a 574 hydro for the Canadian and European market. Never "officially" marketed in the US market.   There were a few as 2500 industrials on the construction side. The next small hydro in the US market was the hydro 84.
