Sleeper Cars.

Recommended Posts

Something I've  always wanted to do is put one of these together.  An old 4 door rusty car that goes like a banshee. I had a 69 Impala with a good 327 that surprised a lot of people. But these are a lot faster. Fancy paint don't make em run better!

Reminds me of Dave Stangle and Solid Junk puller. Tractor did not look the best but paint does not make it run better. It is what is inside that makes it run.

Quite likely the cars/trucks in the video are bottle fed babies. Enough nitrous can make anything fast. Sometimes even engine explosions fast. I used to watch Pinks. Someone would take a junk yard engine and put the bottle on it. Did not care if it ran more than 3 or 4 passes.

My favorite was the very last car, the Dart. [hope new guy doesn`t read this]

Evidently in the south, spectator safety isn`t a priority!

Nice little Deuce even tho it was NO sleeper.

Thanks FFEU!

Now THAT is a sleeper Mike!

Did you see his dog sitting beside him barking during burnouts?

Hilarious! I love it!

I love the topper door flying open on the holeshots on farm truck.   A lot of them in the video were not sleepers but I like the concept.  Had a 77 Rabbit that was pretty quick in 81.  A guy in town had a new 305 Camero and wanted to race, spotted ME two and I beat Him by more.  Lined up even and I smoked Him again.  He sure hated that car and it was gone not long after that.

Amazingly enough the NHRA made him get a firesuit for the dog, or leave him behind----

Dog now has a firesuit with a handle on the back so he can be carried---

Gotta love it!!!

I was drag racing in '62.  The hot stock class car to beat on the street or strip was a '57 Chevy 283 3 speed.  And they all got beat on the strip by a stock model A Ford.  Funniest dang thing you ever saw.  All the out of towners had to try and none could win.  No one ever tried the second time.  The hood was never opened on the Model A but you could hear that it was just a 4 cylinder engine and you could see that the transmission and rear were stock.  It even had wire wheels until the rears started to fail.  The fun only lasted about a month.  The word finally got around that that Ford had an overhead valve setup and multiple carbs, etc.  I have no idea what was done to the internals of the engine or if anything was done to the driveline.  I just know the danged thing was very rapid.  And sort of dangerous.  It did have stock brakes.  I think it is probably still in existence somewhere in a shed.  A real sleeper for sure.

And don`t forget Ted Harbit`s Chickenhawk!

He crashed it after 47 years of racing it.

Ted was 74 when he crashed the Chickenhawk for the last time.

One from New Zealand.

Ford UK Zephyr Mark 3 was a 2.6 litre straight 6 4-door of about 100 hp.  There was room to replace that with Corvette running gear.  Which turned it into an E-type worrier.
