Adjusting Liftgate

Recommended Posts

I have a liftgate on the back of my S1700 and the left side is lower then the right and I'm wondering if anyone knows how to adjust the chain on the one side.

there are no holes but there are some welded covers, not sure if I have to grind those off to get to something in there.

Can you post some closer pictures of both sides? It ought to be just a matter of physics.

Any stretched links on chain? Measure both chains to find difference.  Then put bolt & lock nut or 2 at   different spots between links to tighten .. Use to do that when dump truck tailgate chains got stretched a little.

I don't think it those chains, those seem fine, its the part next to the truck. I think I'm going to have to take out a link in the chain that winds around when it lifts up.

There is your problem...Is the hinge plate missing a bolt? Straighten plate so the 3 holes are plumb/vertical . See how the square "Stop " is wore into from use over time. The chains would adjust height of tailend.

I was thinking that too however on closer inspection there is only one hole and bolt. I think its to add or take away tension from the liftgate when you are "folding" it up.

Can lower gate on a block to let hinge plate straighten up then tighten bolt or replace with new.  Pic of other hinge side.....
