Air Compressor Electric Motor Tripping out Breaker

Recommended Posts

Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond sooner. The windings appear to be OK. I am concerned about the string that is used to bind up the windings. From about the 3oclock position to about 6oclock the string appears to be loose. The string usually melts/burns in two from excessive heat in the wire.  You can usually knock the armature, pulley, and other endbell out the other end as one piece. I would do it to look at the other end of the windings. You should also check out the governor. It is the plastic disc and spring-loaded weight assembly behind the bearing. The disc should move in and spring back out. This is what operates the switch. It will move inboard approximately 1/4" - 1/2". You can assemble the armature into the endbell without the motor housing to see how it works the switch. Make sure the contacts close. I have seen some governors stick in. The contacts will be open and the motor will not start.
