LP stock tank heaters

Recommended Posts

Contemplating buying a propane fired stock tank heater. Have water out to my back pastures but no electricity. Does any one use propane stock tank heaters and how well do they work and how efficiently? I figure to decrease heat loss I can build an insulated structure around the tank and build a cover so only a portion is exposed to the elements. I found a trojan brand heater that seems very well built.

Haven't been around them in 40 years, but they worked well back then. The only brand the feed stores or farm stores here sell.  Definitely build a cover over the tank. You'll be surprised the savings in fuel.

i installed aeratorsin my troughs. Too much$$$to run the electric heaters. they seem to work well as it has been 0 here at night. still have ice but the bubbler keeps an area open. maybe look into a solar 12volt aerator. i bought the 3 aerators off eBay. they were designed for backyard koifish.ponds. just throwing an idea out
