Buying another truck

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about buying a 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton truck but is about 1000 miles away and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to drive it home it has a 4 speed manual trans and a 350 engine I was wondering if it would run comfortablely down the freeway

Well, there's no doubt it would make the trip if it's in road-ready condition.

A '71 3/4 ton 4-speed wil likely have 4.11 or even 4.56 gears. It won't be a speedwagon but at 60 mph it should run forever. If it's gonna blow up in 1000 miles it ain't no good anyway! Plan on buying over 100 gallons of gas, maybe 'way over that. Some of them got like 7 mpg brand new!

Aw, anybody who buys a '71 Chevy 3/4-ton ought to be a backroads kind of guy.

You'd feel more comfortable pulling it on a trailer at 75 than driving it at 75?

75 is going to be at or under 4000 rpm with big 16" tires, even if it  has 4.56 gears.

If it has been in constant use drive it ,if it has been sitting for a year or to haul it .
