Finished Project - McCormick No. 4 Tractor Plow

Nine years ago I found this set of plows in a boneyard at an equipment dealer about 60 miles from my house. I tried off and on for several years to buy them, never could get a price from him. Back in April I heard he was retiring, going out of business and auctioning everything off. There were several other plows there, a couple No. 8's, but I kinda thought the No. 4 would suit me better for hauling, storing and showing. I know it's much to small for my "M", but is probably just right for my F12. Anyway here's a couple before and afters. I looked through the archives here for hours, looking at photos of plows, both restored and original, trying to decipher the paint. The colors match what I found on it, in the places I found it. Thank you all for the great information here in the archives!19667535_1483684035030896_8319653756431794354_o.thumb.jpg.3ac9556368382f85fc42e794abc59416.jpg21544164_1548044305261535_5007739107190019523_o.thumb.jpg.9993e2f9a95ec5413c5a614281e67fa8.jpg21369061_1548046028594696_3986996324103036573_o.thumb.jpg.3bc6cb12f31f904d44d5c216577ca0dd.jpg21427507_1548045288594770_3736883548518883788_o.thumb.jpg.14f36f258faf32ab0c0f22d4a1fc0726.jpg21433078_1548043988594900_6863036658907228073_n.thumb.jpg.aadb6f8f789c5f9fea68413a502412b6.jpg21414915_1548044645261501_176636101393037586_o.thumb.jpg.49d890e945bcbc83d9d526ddd4040bbf.jpg

Very nice.  Sorry no one answered you on your hitch stencil patent number question.  I've never heard or seen of such a thing.

Thank you all for the kind compliments!

I understand no one answering...if no one knows for sure it's just conjecture. I did however mask off and preserve what was left of it. I may even decided to have another stencil made as I did the "McCormick No. 4". Then I will just stencil my "guess" number on the top side of the hitch.

I've looked through all my parts manuals, all the Wisconsin archives and so on, nothing shows the patent number.

are the #4 plows all little wonders like this one with the fixed tail wheel, and the little genius, with the movable tail wheel, the #8s?

Correct.   LIttle Wonder plows sometimes had a tailwheel like the one pictured and sometimes they had tailwheel delete.  Little genius plows all had a tailwheel that was movable.

Very nice plow!!  I recently picked up a little wonder 1 bottom and will be using this to restore mine

This one had a fair amount of original paint hidden underneath all the grease and grime. A fair amount of the original decal and stenciling was still visible.

I may try to make it down to one of Chapter 37's plow days next spring. Either with the M and the No. 4 or with my F12.

Gotta admit though, restoring the No. 4 is making me want to find a No. 8 now to go with it

Very nice! Our 3 bottom raises and lowers fine but both our trip 2 bottom plows are a nightmare to plow with!
