Maxxum A/C low pressure Schrader valve gone

Dad mentioned that the A/C wasn't working on the Maxxum again.

Took one look and realized why it wasn't working: The Schrader valve in the low pressure port was gone, missing, not there. When all the magic cold juice runs out, the A/C stops working... Top tech tip of the day.

Luckily my sister and her husband were near an auto parts store so I had them pick up a set of Schrader valves at NAPA on their way out. I put a new valve in, pulled a vacuum on my gauge manifold for about 10 minutes, then added 2 small cans of R134a to get the pressure back up into the green zone. Works fine again.

Any idea where the old Schrader valve went? The new valve screwed in and tightened down nice, so the port isn't stripped from the valve blowing out.

The port should have had a cap on it too????

Assuming that the dust cap was missing, it probably just vibrated loose and popped out. I've never seen one come out all the way, but I have seen the valves loosen up enough to let refrigerant out before

Dad found the dust cap laying on the shed floor under the tractor. No sign of the Schrader valve, though.
