Burma-Shave

Recommended Posts

The advertising slogan thread got me thinking and reminiscing.  As a boy I can remember a couple spots in the area that had roadside Burma-Shave signs.  Who else remembers them or maybe even had them on their farm?

I do.  Here you will find them all by year used.  In our area we had those strip signs from other advertisers .  Seems I remember them for BLUE BUS, and maybe GREYHOUND

It's.   Smarter.   To.   Charter.  A bus.  From Us

   BLUE BUS

Saw one sponsored by a church----

If Daisies are

Your favorite flowers

keep pushing up

Those miles per hour .

I can't remember even one Burma-Shave message at the moment ,as I kid I loved them .It was a highlight of "going across the line" .

Just looking at the link ,I guess I'm wrong this is Burma-Shave .

Was thinking about the painted barn ads earlier today

Thanks Mark.  The yellow paint may be all that is holding that poor old barn together

The family used to cruise down into Washington state on weekends, Us kids would love to shout out the Burma Shave signs.

Don,t try passing : on a slope: unless you have: a periscope: Burma Shave.  Down the road on the upside of a little hill when I was a kid.

In the early 50's the stake signs along the main highways were very entertaining when I was a kid.  I believe there was a sign every mile with the last one Berma shave.

Texas has a zillion (NAN) miles of back country roads that are undisturbed in recent history,  some to the old signs are still in place.

My grandparents had the Mail Pouch on the back of their barn.  It faced US 23 in Ottawa Lake MI.  Dad parked his 91 combine in there. All was great until a lack of maintenance caused the barn to fall on said combine so all of that is gone now.

sorry if I hacked the OP.

Guess I'm not old enough, I don't recall ever seeing a Burma Shave sign except for in an antique store. But I do remember the endless "See Rock City" and "See Ruby Falls" on signs and barns along the freeway on our yearly trips from MN to FL.
