Just bought a 686 with the 310 german in it that needs a few things. It has a fuel leak from the rear of the pump. Right in the center of the rear where the injector supply lines come out of there is  what appears to be a hex head bolt protruding from the pump. It is leaking from this bolt/seal/oring. What exactly is behind the bolt? Is there a seal or o-ring that I can replace? Don't want to start taking things apart without knowing what all's going on. If I have to remove the pump does it need to be timed before removing it? If so, where can I find a good writeup on removing the pump? I have an old cheap shop manual but it doesn't say a whole lot. Was hoping maybe I could fix the leak with the pump on the tractor and not have to take it to a pump shop and have it rebuilt. The tractor starts and runs great by the way. Thanks!

Yes it can be replaced , Injecpumped ( Ed ) on here works at a fuel shop, I am sure he has the part or I can help you out too.

Thanks Danny, I now actually own my own fuel pump shop now. I am thinking the VA pump just has a bleeder bolt in the center that seals on a taper, no seals or gasket. I could be remembering the wrong model VA though, been a while since I've worked on one.

Injpumped, so I probably need to just try tightening it up or putting some sort of sealant on it then? Thread tape isn't made for fuel....what about the liquid teflon sealant?

that bolt uses a soft steel seal,part number 3132407r1 about 5 dollars according to parts book it says o ring but is not had to do the same on my va pump

JM, is right, there is a soft metal crush washer on some of those. You could try taking it out, look washer over good, and try reinstalling it if it looks ok. otherwise, it is an available item. That is simply a bleed screw back there, so nothing will fly out at you when you take it out. lol!

Thanks guys, I went and picked up the crush washer today along with some tie rod ends. Somebody had put a copper sealing washer on it instead of a crush washer so I guess that was the probem although I haven't put it back in yet. Thanks!

thats good to see. The copper probably wont take injection pressure that that bolt is subjected to. VE pumps, similar to VA do use a copper washer, but it's counterbored for blowout protection. The right washer on there will seal it up. Great News!
