WHAT I AM ASKING IS "DID JOHN DEERE EVER MAKE THEIR OWN V-8 DIESEL AND PUT IT IN THEIR OWN TRACTORS" I SEE WHERE THEY USED CUMMINGS AND THATS IT. DID THEY USE ANY OTHER BRANDS IN THEIR TRACTORS. I AM BABBLING THIS DIDNT SOUND RIGHT.. LOL I KNOW THEY USED DETRIOT WHEN THEY 8850 4wd. FIRST STARTING MAKING A 4X4. A "JIMMY TWO-STROKE JOKE"
WOW TURN THE VOLUME DOWN
Yes, they make there own 12.5L engine for their 4wd's today. That engine came out of the joint venture Detroit & Deere were in back in the late 80's early 90's. And yes they used their own built 955 V-8 in the 8850 4wd tractor.

They also used that engine in the construction divisions 844 articulated loader.
And their biggest excavator too, the 890 I think it was.
Had to LOL @ 696IH's comment about the 955 CID V8 being a 903 Cum-a-part clone. The Cummins had "903" cast into the valve covers, the 955 had the leaping lamb logo. I think certain parts would even interchange between the two engines!
I know JD is using a Mercedes engine in their big new articulated dump trucks used to haul dirt/rock around construction sites. Seems like it's a V8 or V12.
Had to laugh years ago, Neighbor lady was a purchasing or scheduling person @ JD Harvester for a while. She called Chevrolet to ask about delivery of several hundred 292 gas engines for use in the 4400 combines. She wanted to schedule so many a day for several weeks to meet the production schedule and to make sure Chevy could keep up with JD. The guy at Chevy said "Well, WHICH day do you want them, We'll build them ALL at the same time since they're so different than our normal 292's, should take about FOUR hours to make them all."
JD has never had a problem buying HP from others. Not everything could adapt to JD's old 2-cylinder technology.
