Since I have 686 with the 310 german diesel engine and engine parts seem to be "rare" for a 686. What I see not listed for a 686 in engine parts I see listed for the 706-756 models rebuild kits and associated parts, Injection pumps, radiators, and so on! I don't need any parts I am just curious. I do know the rest of the tractors are day and night apart all I need is some info on the engines.

What all interchanges? Lets cover from radiator to flywheel and valve cover to oil pan and all between including starters!

Thanks

How about the 715? Didn't the later ones come with the 310? What would interchange with the different tractors?

If I remember correctly the early 782 cotton pickers used the 310. The series 2 used the 358. Eason

I don't need an engine!

Just last week I finally cracked open the oil plug and nothing came out but OIL! Ya!!!!!!!!! I was concerned since this is my first wet sleeve engine.

Just curious what differences were between all these machines since you can't find things for one but you can find for the other.

Internals should be the same. Sleeves, pistons, bearings, etc.

Injector pump should be the same too.

Radiators, I would guess are probably different. The 686 is a hybrid small frame/large frame tractor, while the 706/756 are totally large frame. All you can do is measure it up and see if it will work.

Rear cover is definitely different. The 686 is "small frame" in that area.
Front cover... Not sure. When we put the American D360 in the 756, the mechanic said the front cover off a 666's D312 diesel would fit, but they were rare. He ended up machining down a front cover off an early 886. Maybe there is a similar relationship with the German Diesels.

I replaced a bad 310 in my 715 with one from a cotton picker. It was a chore. I had to strip the engine to the long block and replace all the items off the combine onto the picker engine. The cotton pickers use low profile components... Then the new engine locked up that fall (fuel in oil). I got mad and bought a 1460 that fall. Thx-Ace

Injector pumps and lines are different from the early (756-826) Germans to the late (86-30 series)
