TD9 Questions all kinds of good stuff

I have a TD9 the previous owner pulled the steering clutches out of. All the parts are there, and its been inside. I might be needing seals for the bevel gear housing to the clutch housing. I haven't researched it at all yet. Does anyone know what number seal and where to get them? The serial number is TDCB39717T7BH, if I remembered it correctly. Also what year and paticulars (HP drawbar pull)? I've got it pegged at '51, and also told it weighs 10800lbs bare tractor. I think I can put it back together fairly easy, any tricks?
Also, I want to run a tow behiend brush hog. I need a PTO for it. Didn't know if I could make a shaft to hook up to where the winch used to be or if it had to be something special. Will one off a rubber tire tractor work? I think thats all for now, surely I'll need more help along the way, and surely some you can't help me with, unless you are a shrink! LOL
Thanks,
Bob

...good to see you are continuing the 'upgrade' Bob. I imagine should that litany of questions been asked of a Cletrac collector...it could well have garnered the same response as asking for a complete recital of the gross national product of Kiribati.......however there could be answers to your querys here....although I am not sure who..if any, Red Power Forum members are 'shrinks'...masqurading as collectors of aged iron...
Although you have been a little coy re the exact model TD9....I reckon all the carrier bearing seals are the same....and seeing as we can procure them from the local bearing/seal shop ,you will have no problems ...
As for the PTO adaptation...many years gone I fitted a 504/606/A554 etc etc type, independant PTO to a TD8..(British, you know, but having identical physical DNA to the 9....)...this required an adapter plate from PTO housing to four bolt TD8 back end...a female splined collar linking power feed to PTO...worked a treat...used it mainly for a trailing ditch digger (remote hydralic pump...)
Intially considered a regular PTO shaft as used in the Farmall M etc ...but the IDPTO offered 'driveshaft protection' when screwing around...in tight spots...(with the prime mover...)

I like old tractors and old lever rifles and drinking black billy tea, while sitting round a campfire....or most any time at all
you will have to excuse my internet interlect....it is around the IQ of an ice age vegetarian

Hey Bob , my 52 Td6 has a reduction pto on it to 540 rpm . Don't wanna sell the pto unit seperate but you can see how it attaches and what it is . Was told was same pto on 6 and 9 just longer shaft . Don't know that for sure , but sounds resonable . Maybe the guy I got the 62's from has a pto he'd sell , has a couple t and td 9's .

That sounds right, being a reduction PTO, as the Cletrac and Cat also use a reduction for 540. I'd be interested in a PTO unit when I get the old jalopy going. Its been on the "list" for some time now. I talked to the previous owner and he said all it needed was to be put back together, and didn't need seals, but am going to investigate myself before doing so. Hate to have to tear it back apart just for a couple seals...
I've haven't completely converted quite yet...Got a couple Clattertracs to pick up in Maine this upcoming weekend. Anyone need something hauled from Thw NW PA region toward Maine????? I'd make you a smokin deal!
Well anyway, thanks for the info and I'm sure I'll have more. And by "shrink" I was meaning for someone to check my head to figure out why I love this old iron so much...No matter what brand, or off brand! LOL
Thanks,
Bob

Boy, am I glad I will be out of town next weekend, Saco is the next town to mine. Good thing is I don't need a passport to get there, but have had to post bail to get out of town.
