A friend and I are hosting a plow day this summer at one of my parents farms. It will be in Erie Michigan, on July, 24th, from 8 am to 4 pm.

We'll have 30 acres in one field, and 16 in another across the street. It will be wheat stubble that will be bailed, or chopped before we plow it. This is all sandy ground, and is very easy plowing.

The field is about 4 miles off I-75, very easy to get to. The address across the street from the field is...
1100 Lakeside Rd.
Erie, MI 48133

The road is kind of weird, it has 4 different names depending on what cross road you are at...
Luna Pier Rd, Lakeside Rd, M-151, Samaria Rd...

It will be open to any make of garden tractor, I'm not going to open it up to big tractors because the field wouldn't take very long to finish with large equipment.

I'll probably rent 1 or 2 port a pots, and we'll have a couple of coolers of water. Everyone would be responsible for their own food.

Since this is my parent's property I'd like to have no alcohol.

Thanks, Kurt

Here are some photos of where we'll be...

The first 2 pictures are satalite images of the fields.

The 3rd picture is coming from the east, and the 4th picture is coming from the west. You'll enter the field at the intersection, just west of the telephone pole.

I did some tinkering yesterday, and I'm almost ready for the plow day...

I had to make a new mount for the plow to hook up to the new 3 point hitch I made.

The top 3 inches of sand thawed so I could play a little.

Everything still needs paint...

Here are some other GARDEN TRACTOR Plow Days coming in 2010.

I will try to keep thesr plow days in the order as they happen by date.

Just checked weather.com. They are calling for a 40% chance for scattered thunderstorms... High of 87. The past 3 days here they've had a 50% chance of rain, and we haven't seen a drop. I'm hoping for the same for Saturday.

I just watched the weather... they are calling for some strong afternoon storms on Saturday...

Here is the local Detroit weather forcast...

I hope everyone who is traveling a distance watches the weather before they leave.

Unfortanatly there really isn't a rain date possible. We can't plow on Sunday because the field is right across from my parents church... I don't want to do that.

As long as it only rains in the afternoon, which is what they are calling for, we should be able to plow. 2/3 to 3/4 of the field is very well drained sand, so traction won't be a problem.

They are only calling for .20 of an inch of rain...

We had 30 registered plowers, and 40 tractors! It's amazing what the internet can organize!

My Dad thinks we plowed between 16 and 18 acres, not bad... Dad was really impress with what all we got done, I think he expected 2 or 3 acres done... he just didn't understand...

Thanks to everyone for coming out. It wouldn't have been a plow day with out a bunch of people plowing! I had a great time and look forward to putting something together in the future.

You sure meet the nicest people doing things like this.

I added up all of the hours traveled by the participants... 49 hours worth of driving for people to get to the plow day, and 49 hours more for everyone to get home! Total mileage traveled for the plow day... 3097 miles one way! That's 6194 both ways... that's a lot of miles traveled.

I think the people of Erie got a kick out of us plowing a full size field with a bunch of little tractors.

Here are some picts a friend took...
