Guys, I am looking at an 856 that has a 2 point hitch on it. How do I convert that to a 3 point hitch?

Adapters are available at most farm stores, you will have to make or get a toplink adapter. You might check with some salvage yards as they may have some.

Adaptors are ok for some jobs but are a "poor mans" 3 pt hitch. You should be able to buy a complete 3 pt hitch from a salvage yard which would be much better, more expensive as well :(

Best adapter I ever owned was individual fast hitch prongs that came back & the ball for the 3pt pin was angled up & swiveled to allow hook up. I had one of these on an 806D back in the early '70s & put a Cat II quick hitch on the adapters, would ehandle our 3pt IH#55 chiesel plow . Before that I had one of the 1piece wrap around style & it wasn't worth 2. Tore it up the 1st time I hooked up to the chiesel plow. Everyone I have seen since has been welded.

IH tractors currently owned: '49 M, '53 stage 1 L-SM,  '53 stage 2 L-SM,  '54 SMTA, '66 806D w 2355 loader, co-own a '66 1206 with IHboog, store a '66 706 German for IHboog. IH / CIH equipmemt - '11 MX 275, '10 STX 435, '03 MX255, '12 7120 combine w/ 40' 2162 draper & 3208 ch,  '07 3310 sprayer,  '12 1250 16x30" planter, 34' 330 True Tandem , 18' 870 , 7x16" 720 on-land plow, 6x18" 720 in-furrow plow, , #60 4X16" Plow, #1300 3 pt 9' sickle bar mower

I made the conversion on my 806 a couple of years ago. it was pretty easy, I got the parts from a salvage yard. You will need to change the position of the rockshaft arms on the rock shaft. The rock shaft is splined and the end of the rock shaft is marked to identify where the proper position of the rockshaft arms are at. The arms set higher for the 3pt. The connection points for the lower links (tug arms) are already on the tractor.
