My 1957 350D has a valve in the intake manifold called the intake restricter valve. It can be adjusted for a certain vacuum value or to a smooth idle and minimal smoke per the manual. As soon as you advance the throttle it looks like it goes wide open. Never seen one of these on any diesel. Anyone know what the reason is for this valve? Thanks, PK.

It needs to be set right for correct operation.

that engine will over air with out it,possibly the root design of original intentions for the engine as it also serves to hinder a run away condition

It is just to make it idle nicer and not a big deal. Question, do you ever get any diesel slobber out of the manifold when it idles for any length of time.

No slobber. I was just doing my first spring maintenance on this tractor and saw the adjustment procedure in the manual. I couldn't figure just what it did. Do you guys have one of these motors? PK
